This preview was conducted for Director Eric Tan’s Team from Pathfinder (representing Prudential Assurance Company Singapore). We faced an avalanche of questions when we showcased how the UT/ILP Investment Sales Master Class can give you a systematic approach to investment sales. An attendee asked us, “this chart can be made up, how do I explain if the customer asks me this?”. Regulatory Barriers: The Middle Class Struggle for Financial Growth The middle class can only turn their meager savings into significant wealth by continuously investing in diversified vehicles. However, many profitable schemes remain inaccessible due to restrictive regulations. Regulators often prioritize investor safety over popularizing investment options, hindering financial inclusion. Insurance agents, mutual fund advisors, portfolio managers, and stockbroking firms play crucial roles in bringing investment schemes to the public, yet they face regulatory challenges. Mis-selling penalties for insurance agents, reduced commissions for mutual fund advisors, and increased minimum investments for portfolio management have all stifled sector growth. Regulators assume higher investment amounts correlate with better investor knowledge, but portfolio management services are essential for the middle class. Well-intentioned regulations often backfire, limiting new investor growth despite increased investment amounts. The new pension scheme for organized sector workers is under-marketed due to unattractive commissions. Recent IRDA directives regarding ULIP advertisement and SEBI directive on uniform brokerage further restrict the spread of insurance and equity investments among the middle class, preventing them from accessing beneficial schemes. They showed a distinct lack of a big shiny new share buyback, which disappointed investors whose hopes were raised by Hong Kong rival AIA yesterday.  The FTSE 100-listed insurer, which has a major focus on Asia, reported an 11% rise in new business profit to US$810 million, excluding economic impacts.
