Passionately helping businesses solve IT, Cybersecurity and Compliance challenges | Business Owner and Educator | Dad | Still learning...
Here’s a hair-raising fact for you: Last year, major sectors including finance, IT, industry, and government, experienced more than two critical security incidents daily. Yes, you read that right: Every. Day. What's even more alarming? Nearly a quarter of these were inadvertently enabled by people, with attackers using methods like phishing (where they trick you into clicking malicious links) and exploiting remote services to sneak into systems. Attackers are getting smarter, using everyday tools on your computer to carry out what's known as 'living-off-the-land' attacks. They manipulate accounts and software vulnerabilities, and even trick employees into giving them access. The faster these incidents are reported, the quicker they can be stopped. On average, severe issues were reported in about 36 minutes – that's quick, but every second counts. Despite a drop in high-severity incidents, the risk hasn't decreased. Cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated and damaging. It's crucial to not just have cyber security protection but to make sure it’s managed by experienced professionals. Automated tools are great, but I believe human expertise is irreplaceable for spotting and stopping the smartest attacks. As always, my advice is to 1) make sure everyone on your team knows the basics of cyber security, 2) have experts monitor your systems (my team can help with this), and 3) to keep your software up to date to avoid vulnerabilities. LanSource Cyber Security Tip: Your firewall is USELESS unless… A firewall is a device that acts like a security cop watching over your computer network to detect unauthorized access and activity – and EVERY business and individual needs one. However, your firewall is completely useless if it’s not set up or maintained properly. Your firewall needs to be upgraded and patched on a continual and consistent basis, and security policies and configurations set. This is not something you want to try and handle on your own – you are best served by letting the pros (us!) handle that for you. If you’re a Managed Service client, we’ve got you covered. If not, you should call us immediately to correct the error of your ways. Do you have questions about cyber security or some other IT-related issues? 🔐 Are you a Password Hero? 🔐 With cyber threats on the rise, it's crucial we step up our game, starting with password security. Here's how: 🚀 Elevate Your Password Game - Aim for 14 characters, mixing in phrases like "CrunchyBreezyBee112*!!" for both security and memorability. 🔒 Unique Passwords for Each Account - Avoid using the same password across different platforms. If one gets compromised, the rest remain safe. 🚫 Personal Info is a No-Go - Keep personal details like birthdays or addresses out of your passwords. 🔑 Password Managers are Lifesavers - They keep your plethora of passwords secure and easily accessible. 🛡️ Enable Multi-Factor Authentication - Add an extra layer of security to your accounts. Have a great and secuday. 😁 Cliff P.S. If your password isn't a secret from everyone, including IT, it's time for a change! Got any other tips to safe? Please do share?

LanSource Cyber Security Tip: Back to basics A lot of time is spent on staying protected from the newest type of scam or the newest cybercrimes, but as is true with many things, remembering the basics is the entire foundation of making sure you, your company and your clients remain safe. Everyone in the company or organization should know basic security principles. Security principles and policies should be documented and part of every new employee training. Strong password requirements, only connecting remotely over VPN and Internet usage guidelines are examples of some common security policy items. Strict penalties for violating the security policies should be detailed. It’s not a good habit to save files onto your computer if there is a location on the network or on your server that they can live. They’re much less likely to be backed up on your computer, whereas they’ll reliably and regularly be backed up if they are saved on the server. If you use websites or software that do not require regular password changes, set a calendar reminder to change the password yourself every other month. As with other things, a little prevention goes a long way – remembering the security basics, and asking about them if you don’t know what they are, is the single best thing you can do to protect yourself and protect the company. Do you have questions about cyber security or some other IT-related issues? Please don't hesitate to reach out at 972-612-1690 or https://lnkd.in/giWA7_7J

Saving You Countless Hours & Headaches by Simplifying Cyber Security Challenges & Providing Expert Guidance for CMMC Compliance Readiness
Yesterday, I spoke about companies that have a gap in "people" when it relates to cyber security and compliance preparation. Today, I will speak on "processes". Why do we need a process? The answer is simple. Once you have determined the best, most efficient way to do something, write it down, formalize it, and make it your companies procedure. It saves everyone time, money, and headache. The same thing applies to cyber security and compliance. How do you meet each CMMC control? How does your cyber security team to respond to each level of cyber "incident" that occurs. Who handles what, and how do they handle it? When something unexpected happens, does everyone look at each other scratching their heads? Does it set your company back 3-5 days just laying out the plan of action? Be prepared! We will help you create efficient, accurate, and effective processes within your cyber security and compliance department.
