Each year, approximately 1.7 million Americans are affected by sepsis, and a staggering one-third of patients who pass away from sepsis, had it during their hospitalization. This highlights the urgent need for effective strategies and interventions to combat this life-threatening condition. In 2023, Hoda Asmar, MD, MBA, chief clinical officer, reported that our care initiatives aimed at decreasing sepsis mortality saved an estimated 1,250 lives. Our updated procedure incorporates a standardized order set for blood tests, fluid resuscitation, blood pressure management and the critical step of early antibiotics within one hour of sepsis identification are key parts of our approach to saving sepsis patients lives.
