🌊📚 Meet Gina 🌟 "Live a life you don’t have to take a vacation from," says Gina, a visionary speech language pathologist who’s crafted her dream life by blending her passion with innovation. Starting her career in a prestigious hospital, Gina dedicated over a decade to cognitive rehabilitation for patients with traumatic brain injuries. 🏥💭 However, when the world paused due to COVID-19, Gina found a new calling. Quarantining with her extended family, she took on the role of a homeschool teacher for her younger cousin, applying her SLP expertise to correct his lisp. This pivotal moment led Gina to transition from the medical field to becoming a virtual school SLP, reshaping her career path and impacting lives from the comfort of home. 🏡🎓 Gina’s story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the greatest opportunities arise from the most unexpected circumstances. Speech Therapists are also known as Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) or simply put Speech Pathologists are Healthcare professionals that: - Assist with patients who have difficulty with communication. - Help patients improve their speech and communication if they have been ill, injured, or if they have a chronic disability - Work with people who are having difficulty swallowing food or drink to improve safety while eating. Speech Pathologists are found I. Thw following settings: - Schools - Nursing homes - Hospitals - Private practices They treat the following conditions: - Stuttering or stammering - Difficulty speaking after #stroke or another neurological injury - Difficulty understanding language after #injury - Difficulty swallowing #food or drink - Articulation (the correct formation of words and sounds) - Cognitive communication problems that may occur with the #cognitive decline seen in #dementia or #Alzheimer's disease - Modified speech and #voice techniques for transgender individuals - Altering of accents by helping patients form words and sounds correctly to alter their normal speech in learning a new language. _ _ #speech #language #therapist #speechpathologist #SLP #Healthcare #accent #eating #communication
