Like wine? Check out my husband's summary of a trip to southern Australia to drink wine (tough life). If you want to read more, he has a beautifully-written blog here: https://lnkd.in/g-7qnF63
Last autumn/spring, I was invited on Tim Wildman MW's final James Busby Travel trip, serendipitously coinciding with the announcement of 67 Pall Mall Melbourne! It was the experience of a lifetime, and I made an attempt to pass on a little of what I learned in our Members' newsletter. Thanks to Guy Woodward for the opportunity to proselytise. https://lnkd.in/gpzpGNZ5

Better, we show it, Being a newcomer in a market as old and established as the beverage market, is always an added challenge. Legitimacy is earned, it is conquered, and it is not an easy recognition. It is a prodigious equation. Ama tries to understand some basic notions. We did not acquire our production plant in 1593, Jacques de Sauvage did acquire the Château d'Yquem château and ground then. Nor do we have soleras in operation since 1631 like those that started up at Bodegas Baron in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Ama is not made up of generations of Angelos and Giovanis and neither is it located in Tuscany, but it was born from the hospitality business as was the Gaja winery. We don't have to go far to see how the Mandiola farmhouse where the Astarbe cider house is located, one of the best cider houses in the Basque Country, was already producing cider in 1563 and 15 generations later, the same family continues to exploit a unique know-how. We do not ferment Sauvignon Blanc, nor do we ferment Nebbiolo and Palomino fino grapes or Astarbe apple varieties, but if one were to put a classification on the quality of the tea gardens from which our raw material comes, they would undoubtedly be called Premier Crue, Grand crue or village teas. Our processes are artisanal and our horizon is both the exceptionality and the quality of those producers we admire. We have no past but plenty of future. We ferment and breed like those who one day began and today have history. We have the feeling that we are writing our own. We are in the prologue... We show you how. https://lnkd.in/dqC8QJdT #nolow #gastronomy #drinks #finedining

Trip to the beach anyone? Loving this bottle (and liquid) from Seabourne Distillery, a new player in Australia’s vibrant craft spirits scene, based out of Noosa on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Seabourne has already racked up awards for its Coastal Dry Gin – a Design & Packaging Masters Award at the Global Spirit Masters (look at that bottle base!), and successive gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. But like most small local producers, it doesn’t have the deep pockets of mainstream brands. That means being savvy with budgets and carefully backing brand-building initiatives that scale. Cue the Coastal Dry Gin’s launch on Small Batch Learning, to make sure channel partners frontline staff are trained up, engaged with the product and ready to recommend. “For a small brand like us, Small Batch Learning has been a revelation," says Hayden Weir, Seabourne's founder and managing director. "Retail teams are faced with endless competing products vying for their attention in-store, which makes it difficult to stand out. Being able to capture their focus through Small Batch on what we’re doing, and clearly communicate our selling points and brand story, is a gamechanger. In terms of brand advocacy, nothing that we could do (or even afford) face to face would have the same impact.” #productenablement #brandadvocacy #retail #spiritsbusiness #craftgin #craftspirits #learninganddevelopment #stafftraining #alcoholindustry
