Education is powerful. It transforms lives. Check out this article about the legacy of Providence St. Mel School and its impact in Chicago:
“I don’t recall exactly the first time I saw the lawn outside Providence St. Mel School, or Paul J. Adams, III—the man responsible. It must have been sometime in 1974—back when Afros and bell-bottom pants were signs of the times and the struggle to lay hold on the American dream still seemed ever elusive for Blacks in America… What I do recall clearly is the notion that grass wouldn’t—couldn’t—grow on the West Side: too poor, too ghetto, too far from the fertile soil from which sprouts the stuff of American dreams.” In this blog post, originally published by Providence St. Mel School alum John W. Fountain, learn how one man’s perseverance, vision, and determination to serve some of Chicago’s most disadvantaged students became the legacy of our grantee partner, Providence St. Mel School: https://lnkd.in/eN8P42Dv #johnsonscholarship #providencestmel #educationforall #chicagoeducation #equalopportunity #chicago #westside

𝓦𝓮𝓵𝓬𝓸𝓶𝓮 𝓽𝓸 𝓪 𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓵𝓭 𝓸𝓯 𝓘𝓷𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓘𝓷𝓼𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽! In my downtime, I had the joy of visiting the iconic Mount Rushmore National Memorial. This amazing site features the carved faces of four legendary U.S. Presidents, each symbolising key aspects of America's journey. 1. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 (#1): The first president, Washington is the embodiment of leadership and resilience. He laid the foundation for the United States, much like how foundational knowledge sets the stage for future innovations in education.😉 2. 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐉𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 (#3): As the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson's vision for liberty and education paved the way for a society that values lifelong learning and intellectual freedom. Imagine if he could see today's educational opportunities where knowledge is accessible to everyone. 3. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐭 (#26): Known for his energetic leadership and progressive policies, Roosevelt was a trailblazer in conservation and social reform. 4. 𝐀𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐧 (#16): Lincoln's legacy of unity and equality continues to inspire. His determination to abolish slavery and promote human rights is akin to our ongoing efforts to use education as a means to bridge societal gaps and promote inclusivity. These four presidents not only shaped the nation but also set the stage for the innovative spirit that drives us today. Just as Mount Rushmore stands tall and enduring, so do the principles these leaders represent in our quest for knowledge and educational advancement.
