If Black incomes across Metro New Orleans were as high as their Black peers in Atlanta, Houston, Charlotte, or Nashville, the size of New Orleans’ economy measured in terms of output would increase between $3.3 billion and $5 billion annually. Raising incomes for Black New Orleanians to the level of their Black peers in other growing Southern metros will require broad private sector participation and policy changes that both increase wages and increase the share of Black New Orleanians actively participating in the workforce. Juneteenth is the day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates Black freedom, culture, and achievements. This day holds profound significance, not just for its historical importance, but also for its ongoing relevance in our pursuit of equality and economic empowerment. Juneteenth reminds me of the resilience and strength of the Black community, qualities epitomized by the legacy of Black Wall Street. In the early 20th century, the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma, also known as Black Wall Street, became a thriving hub of Black entrepreneurship and economic success. Despite facing systemic racism and the devastating Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, the spirit of Black Wall Street lives on as a symbol of what can be achieved when opportunity meets determination. Today, I reflect on the progress we've made and the work still ahead. Morgan Stanley and Wall Street play a crucial role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. By investing in minority-owned businesses, supporting policies that address economic disparities, and fostering an inclusive workplace, we can contribute to a more just and prosperous society. On this Juneteenth, let's commit to upholding the values of equality and opportunity that Black Wall Street exemplified. Together, we can build a future where every individual, regardless of their background, has the chance to thrive. #Juneteenth #BlackWallStreet #DiversityAndInclusion #WallStreet #EconomicEmpowerment

It is a fact that the commercial real estate industry lacks workforce diversity. Black women hold less than 1% of senior commercial real estate (CRE) executive positions. The number of Black men in such roles hovers around 1.3%. It is also true that Black professionals in CRE face unique challenges, but there are solutions to overcome them. Having a strategic career advisor can be an essential partner in identifying one's strengths and unique talents, refining networking skills, and building strong professional associations. And by having access to mentors and advocates, Black professionals can advance their careers and achieve their goals. This week in honor of Black History Month, Black Developers Forum is spotlighting career strategist Garland F. of Fuller Circle Consulting. She has nearly twenty years of experience in the CRE industry helping Black professionals navigate and improve their career path through one-on-one guidance and advising. Garland is also an adjunct instructor at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy... Standing on Business driving impact and change in the commercial real estate industry. I come from a family of small business owners: my mom ran a child development center for over 15 years, and my dad had a barbershop for over 60 years. As we commemorate #BlackBusinessMonth, I reflect on my parents’ journeys of resilience, and the way in which today I see that same passion and persistence in the Black-owned businesses within our communities in Texas, and the businesses we service at Frost. Black-owned businesses make a significant impact to fuel economic growth in our communities, yet barriers to starting and maintaining a successful business continue to exist. According to a report from The Brookings Institution on Black-owned businesses in U.S. cities, if Black businesses reached parity with all businesses, we would see 21,225 more Black businesses in the Houston area and 23,464 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Within our own teams at Frost, it’s part of why we prioritize fair and responsible banking to ensure all of our customers have equitable access to quality #financialservices. It’s why we formed part of San Antonio’s Corporate Partners for Racial Equity with the mission of decreasing disparities, and have invested in our #smallbusiness owners at a local level through our “Money Talks” workshops. It’s our goal to continue evolving our support and fostering a culture of #belonging for the many business owners who bring great value to our communities. How are you commemorating Black Business Month?

PITCH BLACK APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN! A strong entrepreneurial spirit among Black Americans has spurred the creation of untold numbers of Black owned businesses going back centuries and, at certain times in history, has resulted in thriving communities of enterprise such as the “Black Wall Street” of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the bustling Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. With the escalation of racial tensions and Jim Crow laws, these Black businesses became vulnerable to targeting and destruction. Few resources were available for Black business owners to rebuild if their businesses were damaged. “Black business ownership began to steadily decline beginning in the early 1940s and remained stagnant for several decades before an economic renaissance in the early 1980s. Black business ownership has continued its upward trajectory despite the ongoing challenges of having to continually navigate structural and instructional racism”. -Association For Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) Apply Today! #blaxfriday #everyday Blax Friday Groundswell Capital https://lnkd.in/ermpngAK
