As we celebrate Juneteenth, we must also acknowledge the invisible chains that still bind our country due to systemic racism. The legacy of slavery continues to impact the lives of Black Americans today, from disproportionately high rates of incarceration to limited access to quality education and opportunities. We must all commit to being actively anti-racist and dismantling the systems that uphold white supremacy. This means advocating for policies that promote equity and justice, supporting Black-owned businesses, and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. As a professional in the corporate world, I recognize the importance of creating inclusive workplaces where all employees feel seen, heard, and valued. We must actively work to dismantle the barriers that prevent Black professionals from advancing in their careers and ensure that everyone has access to the same opportunities for success. Let us use this day of celebration as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to create a truly equal and just society. We must continue to educate others, have difficult conversations, and take action.

As we bid farewell to Black History Month, let’s reflect on the power of knowledge. While February is almost over, our continuous learning and allyship doesn’t have to be. Here are a few ways to actively support and engage beyond Black History Month: Learn and Educate: Explore Black history beyond societal narratives. Read books, watch documentaries, and engage with educational resources. Acknowledge and Amplify: Celebrate Black achievements. Share their stories, art, and accomplishments. Engage in Allyship: Listen to diverse voices. Stand against racism and discrimination and foster a more inclusive community. Together, we contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate world. #Crayon #blackhistorymonth2024

Please join us in celebrating the amazing history and contributions of the Black Community all month long! We invite you to embrace Black History Month at your organization and find different ways to celebrate with your staff. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Cater a celebration lunch for your staff with a few different dishes from local Black owned restaurants. Have a presentation on Black History or a topic to foster learning and discussion during the lunch. 2. Send out weekly emails highlighting one or two contributions or historical events from the Black Community. Include a list of recommended books by Black authors that coincide with the email highlight. 3. Send out a list of local Black History events and encourage your staff to attend. Then ask them to share something they learned. 4. Foster an inclusive environment where your staff is encouraged to share about their culture with others in the office, and where they are encouraged to ask and learn about the cultures of others. 5. Highlight your Black staff members through short biographies that include some of their specific contributions to the organization and things they wish to share about their family, history, and culture. These are just a few of the many ways you can celebrate Black History Month at your organization to help inspire discussion and promote inclusion within your team. #blackhistorymonth #blackbusiness #blackexcellence #inclusion #diversity #blackauthors

Chief Inclusion, Belonging & Equity Officer at DeVry University | Global DEI Leader | Advancing Community & Belonging
Black History Month is a time to spotlight and celebrate the honorable contributions, achievements, and culture of Black Americans and their communities. However, these efforts should be applied year-round. Fortunately, at DeVry, we can lean into our business resource groups, including the Association of Black Colleagues (ABC), to enable continuous learning by going deeper into discussions and making meaningful connections. From my perspective, as a collective – organizations, businesses, and society as a whole – can acknowledge and support the significance of Black History beyond the month of February. #BlackHistoryMonth Learn more here: https://devry.ly/3T3PCcn

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time to honor the contributions and struggles of African Americans throughout history. This February, we'll be sharing stories about Black history and mobility on our social media accounts. Some ways you can celebrate Black History Month are: - Learn about Black history by reading a book, listening to a podcast or attending an event in your area - Shop at Black-owned businesses in your city (take transit on the way there if you can!) - Support policies that acknowledge history, reverse exclusionary practices and promote inclusion, diversity and justice What do you plan to do this #BlackHistoryMonth?
