Here are some helpful tips for talking to your doctor or primary care provider: 1️⃣ Educate Yourself Before discussing psychedelics, educate yourself on the benefits and risks. The Psychedelic Association of Canada is an excellent resource for books, podcasts, and research findings. Additional resources can be found in the Knowledge Hub on the Understory Wellness website. You can also book an info call with Understory to help answer any questions or get more program-specific information. 2️⃣ Initiate a Conversation Start by asking your healthcare provider if they have any training or education around the therapeutic use of psychedelics. When talking to your provider, remember that there's nothing illegal about discussing a broad range of psychedelic research and asking questions. In British Columbia specifically, there are legal ways to access psychedelics for health reasons. 3️⃣ Communicate Your Intentions Communicate your intentions of discussing psychedelics with your healthcare provider. What are you trying to accomplish with these initial conversions? If you haven't spoken with your provider about your mental health previously, expect that they will want more information and explain other treatment options. 4️⃣ Address Safety & Communication You can let your provider know that the referral form they complete provides the team at Understory with the information necessary to make the best possible decision about your eligibility for our program(s) and ensures that your health history shapes your care with Understory. 5️⃣ Know Your Options If your current healthcare provider's viewpoint on psychedelic-assisted therapy doesn't align with your interests, or you don't have a healthcare provider, reach out to the team at Understory via our website. Connectivity with nature, defined in this study from the journal Nature, describes a connection between the self, others and the natural world. Those with a greater connection with nature stand to gain the most from the mental health benefits of nature contact. At Outward Bound Canada we focus on building that connectivity with nature, and our participants - some from 50 years ago - have confirmed these long lasting mental health benefits (to the tune of $5million in lowered health care costs from just one year's cohort) in our recent Social Return On Investment study here: https://lnkd.in/gXyiQWZX #natureeducation #natureconnection #outdoorlearning
