Full paper can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/gjnfethq The issue of access to clinical trials reflects that of access to care and to biomedical innovation. The American Society of Clinical Oncology Task Force has identified that clarifying gregulatory constraints, allowing the use of routine lab/imaging results, and improving the partnerships between trial sites and academic/research centers could greatly increase the ability to decentralise oncology clinical trials. The latter, in particular, calls for financial investments and vision to change existing models of reimbursement.
A paper from an ASCO task force published today in Cancer, an American Cancer Society journal, details 3 calls-to-action with practical steps aimed at expanding access to #ClinicalTrials and enabling patients to participate in trials closer to home. The calls-to-action apply to research and clinical care #oncology communities. This paper was developed after a stakeholder meeting with over 80 attendees from different sections of the oncology community including: survivors, advocates, trial sponsors, government agencies, and more. Yes!!! We so desperately need to foster relationships between academic centers and community facilities to allow for more access to critical research! All oncology patients deserve the opportunity to participate in clinical trials. Many people are unable to participate due to lack of accessibility to a center that is conducting trials. This also contributes to the continued under representation/participation of minorities. Glad to see this! #askmeaboutclinicaltrials #oncologyresearch #oncology #clinicalresearch

Excited about ASCO's Call-to-Action for Expanding Clinical Trial Access! The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) issued a call-to-action, and I couldn't be more thrilled! We must break down barriers to clinical trials and ensure more people have an opportunity to participate in clinical research. Action 1: Clarity with the FDA Statement of Investigator (Form 1572) Action 2: Routine Acceptance of Local Laboratory and Imaging Facilities Action 3: Foster Partnerships to Increase Patient and Local Clinical Access to Trials The regulatory pathway isn't the bottleneck. DCT methods have been used in oncology trials for many years. The FDA's recent Decentralized Clinical Trial draft guidance has further cleared the air on key issues like managing Form 1572 and leveraging local facilities. As this article points out, the onus shifts to sponsors and investigators. We must leverage these tools and proactively build community relationships and SOPs to expand trial reach. https://lnkd.in/dGRqaeaJ Kudos to American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the task force for highlighting these issues. The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting is an important event in the oncology field, bringing together top researchers, trialists and clinicians to discuss groundbreaking cancer research and innovative therapies. Held from May 31 to June 4, 2024, in Chicago, this year’s meeting continues to highlight significant advancements, with respect to newer therapies and newer approaches in cancer care. Whether it was newer therapies, the use of previously unused combinations or investigative approaches like ctDNA, it had’em all. However, it’s crucial to make such influential events more accessible to professionals from low to middle-income countries (LMICs). Providing scholarships, virtual attendance options, and enhanced partnerships can bridge the gap, ensuring broader participation and fostering global collaboration in the fight against cancer. By expanding opportunities for all, we can drive forward the mission of health for all. #ASCO2024 #Oncology #CancerResearch #GlobalHealth
Conversations sparked. Connections made. More than 45,000 attendees came together at #ASCO24 to explore the art & science of oncology and left inspired to change the future of cancer care. Thanks to all who joined us! Save the date for #ASCO25: May 30–June 3, 2025
