Are you tired of getting rejection emails where the hiring decided to go with a more “senior” candidate? What does being more senior even mean? Are we talking about skills, background, or experience? Here’s the problem you are getting rejected for Product Manager interviews you are spending a lot of time preparing for roles you would absolutely crush, but something is off on your pitch. Right? Not necessarily, because interviewing for Product Manager roles is different from interviewing for most roles in tech. In most roles in tech or the general job market, you are being told what to do, while Product Managers are usually the people telling others what to do. Product Management is a leadership role and this is why you have to do a lot more than just give the right answers. The types of questions you ask the interviewers are just as important if not more important than your responses, because your questions show the hiring team your thought process and approach to Product Management. RSVP for the live training to learn the best questions and strategies to show your leadership abilities I have seen work for Product Managers as a former tech recruiter time and time again. I will show the interview strategies and frameworks that I have seen work for Product Managers from various backgrounds during the hiring process that your competition is most likely using to win offers. https://lnkd.in/egFQQ5V2 PS I will share the list of the best questions to ask and frameworks at the end of the webinar.

Valuable Insights for Product Interviews and How They've Evolved Recently, I helped place a candidate who has spent 4-5 years in the world of product management and had never encountered a whiteboarding interview. This got me thinking: How have product interviews changed over time? In my view, they've become more specialised, with a keen focus on identifying whether a candidate possesses the specific qualities needed for a particular role. Here are some practical tips to help you navigate modern product interviews, whether you're new to the field or in need of a refresher: Company Knowledge Start by getting to know the company inside out. Understand its values, achievements, and, most importantly, where the role you're applying for fits within the broader product function. It can be an advantage to enquire about the interview panel; you might discover shared interests or connections on LinkedIn from your career journey. Behavioural Insights Highlight your achievements, showcasing your skills and accomplishments throughout the product lifecycle. Remember, no one is flawless. Discuss concepts that didn't pan out as expected and share what you've learned from those experiences. What changes would you make if given a second chance? Case-Style Questions Product management extends beyond data-driven insights. It requires creative thinking and holistic problem-solving. Keep in mind that Product Managers/Owners are responsible for more than just one metric; consider the development process, customer experience, and client needs. And Finally, Drum roll please...🥁 Whiteboarding During your interview, you may be asked to tackle a problem or exercise using a digital whiteboard. This is an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to articulate abstract concepts and showcase your creativity and critical thinking skills during ideation. It would be fantastic if my network could share insights into unique interview processes they've encountered. Perhaps we can set up a call to discuss both the great and not-so-great experiences? #interview #interviewtips #product #productmanager #whiteboard

👉🏽 Currently interviewing? Here are the questions you should ALWAYS ask the hiring manager. I have friends going through the interview/hiring process right now. It sucks, and it's gruelling! When they ask for advice, I always say to MAKE SURE you have questions prepped to ask; it's a good way to stand out and, of course, get the info you need. Here are some questions I pretty much always ask when I'm getting interviewed and WHY I ask them. 💡 How will success be measured in this role? -- This demonstrates that you're already thinking about how to do your job well and that you want to see if they have the right systems in place to track your work. 💡 What's a current project you're working on that you're excited about? -- This will tell you if they like their job, if they're actually interested in the work they're doing, and you can see if what they're working on is something you'll find interesting, too. 💡 What is the current tech stack for someone in this role? -- People are always impressed when I ask this. This is important to know because (esp for Content Marketers) I need to know if you have what I need to do my job well, and I want to do my job well. 💡 Is there a process in place for actionable feedback, and if so, how is progress tracked? -- I ask this because I've had terrible managers who don't know how to give feedback. This shows that I care about constructive criticism and learning from it. It also tells me if this person actually has experience being a good manager. To anyone going through interviews right now, I hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

Scheduled 5 Product Manager interviews using 1 process in 1.5 weeks 🎉🍾 Here’s how: Step 1: go to the LinkedIn search bar and type in: “product manager” AND hiring Step 2: Filter by posts Step 3: Send a connection request with the following note: Hi Name - looking forward to connecting here about the PM role on your team Step 4: Once they connect back, send a follow up note: - In this note: ↳ Tell them that you researched the JD ↳ Provided 3 to 5 examples and connect ↳ What they need to what you’ve done ↳ + added relevant accomplishments Step 5: Getchu some interviews 😀 ——— If you’d like a little more context: Prior to working with us he had applied to 258 roles in a 5 month span and received: - 254 generic automated responses - 3 responses followed by 👻 - 1 interview After joining us: - We identified his super powers: 📍What he he did 📍How he did it 📍What he achieved We then matched it up to the JD’s he was targeting. - Rewrote his Resume & LinkedIn profile 📍Used the same language in the JD’s 📍Made it keyword optimized 📍Added data-driven metrics Once that was completed: we mapped out the companies that were hiring using the process above and began sending messages. ** The Outcome ** - Applying to jobs for 5 months led 1 interview - A dialed in Resume & LinkedIn profile, followed by strategic outreach led to 5 interviews in 1.5 weeks If applying to jobs allows you to sleep better at night, go ahead and do it, but make things a little easier on yourself by adding the process above to it as well. Good luck! P.S. Reach out if you’d like more resources to help with this. Repost this if it can help a friend, colleague or loved one ♻️ #careeradvice #gethired

Product Managers, before your next customer interview: Ask yourself, "Is my mom lying to me?" Let me explain… The genius concept of Rob Fitzpatrick is as simple as this - Your mom should be the last person you ask if your business or product idea is good or not for the obvious reason that regardless, she will probably say “yes” to protect your feelings. But here’s the catch. You should not be asking ANYONE if your upcoming product feature or idea is good or bad. Instead, follow some simple rules to structure and fair-play your interviews to gain real insights >> Before batching conversations, do this: 1. Choose a focused and findable segment if possible - niching down is difficult and painful but worth it! 2. Decide the 3 BIG learning goals with your team. 3. Think about the next steps and commitments if possible. 4. Most important: Are conversations really the right tool? 5. Write down a few of your best guesses that the person you are interviewing might really care about (background research of their profile!) The Ultimate Mom’s Test to a Nearly Successful Customer Interview (CI are almost never completely successful): 1. Talk about their life to understand their core problem and not about your idea. 2. Ask for specifics from the past and present and not opinions or generics of the future. 3. Listen rather than talk more. (Your mom won’t be able to resist this as well!) My rule of thumb is simple, no matter what aspect of a product I am working on (even if I am working on a simple PRD assignment!) - talk to customers in the RIGHT WAY! More insights on this in Part 2, stay tuned ;) Follow #shootupyourproduct and Diksha Patro B for more such updates! P.S.: If you are looking for an APM or a Generalist with a Tech background, let’s talk!
