New product: Gigi Fiamma Bent Billiard w/ Sterling Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked Gigi pipes occupy an interesting position in the history of Italian pipe-making. The story begins with the founding of Sociedade Rovera, a pipe-making company in Varese, Italy, by the Rovera family. As members of the Rovera family left to start their own ventures, the dynasty associated with the name would be split into several companies; Angelo Rovera created Ardor with his son Dorelio; Federico created Fe.Ro; Massimilliano created Mario Rovera; Fiorenzo created Gardenesa; and Giorgio created Giorgio Rovera, along with partners Angelo and Adele Bianchi. In 1964, Luigi Crugnola, nephew of the Bianchis, took over the Giorgio Rovera make and changed its name to his own – Gigi. “Fiamma” is Italian for “flame,” with “fiammata” being roughly translatable to a sudden blaze. This is why, on higher-end Italian pipes, such as Castello’s or Viprati’s superlative smooth finishes, instead of “flame grain,” you’ll find “fiammata.” The same principle seems to apply to this Gigi. Though I haven’t been able to find this Fiamma series as being currently sold anywhere, from handling a fair few Gigi pipes in my time, this is the finest-grained I’ve handled so far, and the addition of a sterling silver band would further confirm my hypothesis. In other words, this is not your average Gigi. As the name promises, this Gigi is absolutely covered in flame grain, with its underside being a veritable sea of bird’s-eye patterns. This Gigi is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating to help ease the break-in process. Details: Length: 5.5″ / 139.7mm Bowl Width: 0.79 / 20.06mm Bowl Depth: 1.55″ / 39.37mm Weight: 1.6oz / 48g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/57YnUl #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: Gigi Country Maigret Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked Gigi pipes occupy an interesting position in the history of Italian pipe-making. Some might call this pipe a “chubby billiard”; others, myself included, would call it a Maigret. The name comes from Georges Simenon’s famous, fictional, French detective, but as far as I’m aware, it’s pipe-makers like Chacom, and then later, Peterson and Ardor, that cemented the idea that a “Maigret” is a billiard of distinctly stout proportions. In other words, a Maigret is a billiard with a broader than average bowl and a thicker than average shank and stem. Needless to say, Maigrets are not lightweight pipes, as we might associate more readily with the French, but they’re absolutely solid smoking machines. This one, by the Italian make Gigi, has some beautiful flame grain swirling all over its stummel, which is a nice counterpoint to the the pipe’s no-nonsense musculature. This Gigi is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered for 9mm filters, but includes its own adapter for non-filtered use. Details: Length: 5.6″ / 142.2mm Bowl Width: 0.81 / 20.57mm Bowl Depth: 1.65″ / 41.91mm Weight: 2.3oz / 68g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/ShTR4U #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: BBB Bermuda 6760 D Smooth Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked ‘BBB’ originally stood for ‘Blumfeld’s Best Briars’, so named after Louis Blumfeld after he took over the historic Alfred Frankenau Company in 1856. Later, the pipes came to be known as ‘Britain’s Best Briars’. Though the name might have changed, the quality of the pipes did not – they really were fantastic pipes, made in the classic style of the English-French shape chart. Like GBD, Dunhill, and Barling’s, BBB are pipes with a rich history behind them, proudly holding the title of “the oldest trade mark in the [pipe] industry.” This is not a shape that I would have expected the historic British make, BBB, to come up with. I suppose one could call it a straight apple or a Lovat, but that wouldn’t nearly do it justice. It’s got a bowl that’s halfway between an apple and a brandy, a triangular shank, and a half-saddle stem. Quite unique, right? Even my Danish pipe super-fan colleague thought it was very different. We both agreed, however, that it’s also very cool. Judging from the brass ‘BBB’ rondelle inlaid in the stem, I would presume that this pipe is also from before BBB’s merger with Cadogan Investments in the 1980s. The pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original factory bowl coating for easing in the first smokes. There are a couple of knicks on the side of the bowl that must have accumulated over the many decades this one has survived, but they’re superficial and minor. The pipe also comes with its original box. Details: Length: 5.4″ / 137.1mm Bowl Width: 0.80 / 20.32mm Bowl Depth: 1.7″ / 43.18mm Weight: 1.8oz / 52g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/XeuH5Q #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd
