🌳 ReForest was presented during the 9th Agroforestry Systems Forum in Freiburg, Germany, on September 27-28. 🇩🇪 With over 300 participants, it's Germany's largest #event dedicated to #agroforestry. The Agroforestry Systems Forum, established since 2009, is a vital gathering for agroforestry stakeholders. Hosted by the Deutscher Fachverband für Agroforstwirtschaft (DeFAF) e.V. and the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, this year's edition had an extensive program and a chance for agricultural #practitioners, academics, government #officials, #policymakers, and society to exchange ideas and network. 🌍🤝Agroforestry offers numerous benefits, and now the focus is on enhancing agricultural landscapes and making them more sustainable through agroforestry systems. #CSHEPKENYA, one of the #AgroecologyInitiative partners in Kenya, celebrated #WorldFoodDay with an event that conveyed several key messages to inspire the adoption of agroecological practices at the grassroots level: Agroecology represents a return to traditional farming approaches that operate in harmony with ecological processes and thereby enhance ecological integrity. Agroecology reflects a profound respect for oneself and the resources that surround us. Addressing global water security challenges relies on the collective impact of small-scale actions taken by local stakeholders. And the most important one: Agroecology can help to prevent, address and overcome the negative impact of unsustainable farming practices on our water resources, and make a meaningful contribution to save our food and planet. The partnership AGROECOLOGY - European partnership on accelerating farming systems transition – agroecology living labs and research infrastructures anticipates to team-up and unlock the transition to agroecology so that farming systems are resilient, productive and prosperous, place-sensitive, as well as climate, environment, ecosystem, biodiversity and people-friendly by 2050! AGROECOLOGY was prepared under the auspices of the SCAR Strategic Working Group on Agroecology, SCAR-AE. Currently 70 partners from 26 countries and regions are part of this vision and coordinated by Nicolas Tinois from the Project Management Juelich, Germany. 🌿✨ We were thrilled to participate in the AGROMIX Agroforestry Policy Summit in Brussels! 🌍🌳 On April 17, 2024 Agroecology Europe together with #AGROMIX, a sister project of MIXED, held a policy summit on agroforestry in Brussels. #H2020MIXED was represented by Tommy Daalgard (Aarhus University) and Holger Pabst (Institut für Ländliche Strukturforschung (IfLS)). 👀The IfLS used this opportunity to contribute results of its policy work in MIXED and to compare and harmonise the results with other agroforestry projects. The objective is and remains to remove existing barriers and close gaps. Still, there is considerable room for improvement in the political-regulatory framework conditions for agroforestry, from investments and area measures to training and economic efficiency. 👉Explore how MIXED project contributes to advancing agroforestry and sustainable farming practices. "Many farming regions around the world face increasing environmental pressures, and would greatly benefit from the implementation of #agroforestry and other #regenerativeagriculture practices. Yet when it comes to designing agroforestry programs, it’s important to realize that every farmer has dynamic and diverse objectives. " In Brazil we face the challenge of implementing this #naturebasedsolution to large-scale coffee growers, although we have several #smallholderfarmers practicing this #sustainabletechnology. It is a matter of understanding which species to use and how to combine them in an appropriate spacing so that the trees do not conflict with the mechanized activities involved in the production process.
