How can Kazakhstan phase out coal? Read on in this splendid report all with open data and software (based on PyPSA). #freethemodels https://lnkd.in/eRGzqqf5 Modelling by Open Energy Transition (Martha Maria F.) and others.
NEW publication: #Kazakhstan could quadruple the share of variable #renewableenergy in its power mix to 20 percent by 2030, bringing it more in line with its 2060 #carbonneutrality target. Accelerating the deployment of wind and solar energy is key to achieving this, facilitating a phase-out of coal and creating opportunities for electrification in heating, transport, and industry 🌱 The new study models four different scenarios for 2030: one for business-as-usual and three others that are more ambitious. The model emphasises the feasibility of transitioning to higher shares of variable renewables while minimising power system costs. Key measures to successfully transform Kazakhstan’s energy system include: ⚡ expanding and reinforcing the grid 💡 increasing energy efficiency 📄 developing a plan to move away from coal Despite challenges, Kazakhstan’s economy has witnessed increasing penetration of renewables over the past decade. Looking ahead, the study demonstrates the feasibility of transitioning directly from coal to renewables, paving the way for electrification and energy efficiency gains across various sectors on the road to carbon neutrality. The publication “Modernising Kazakhstan’s coal-dependent power sector through renewables: challenges, solutions and scenarios up to 2030 and beyond” was produced in collaboration with Open Energy Transition, ECOJER Association and Qazaq Green Association ➡ download it for free here: https://lnkd.in/d48475sk #Kazakhstan #Renewables #CleanEnergyTransition #Data Tatiana Lanshina Christian Redl Long Nguyen Martha Maria F.
