Disasters are often portrayed as affecting everyone equally, but the reality is that a person's sexual orientation or #gender identity significantly influences their level of risk and exposure before, during, and after a crisis. This disparity is not inherent but results from unequal and discriminatory social norms and structures. On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia #IDAHOBIT, our #ResourceOfTheWeek is a reference guide IRDR Centre for Gender and Disaster on Gender and Sexual Minorities in #DisasterRiskReduction. By examining the available literature and evidence, this guide promotes a more inclusive understanding of the impact of gender and sexual identities on disaster risk, exposure, and vulnerability: https://lnkd.in/ek8Cj2MH #GenderEquality #LGBTQ+ #InclusiveResilience

Today, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, we reflect on this year’s powerful theme "No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all." Despite the promise that "all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights," this remains unfulfilled for many LGBTIQ+ individuals around the world. This day is a call to action. It reminds us that only through unity and solidarity can we eradicate injustice and ensure no one is left behind. In our workplaces, this means taking concrete steps to support LGBTQ+ employees who face discrimination. Creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and valued is essential. Companies must move beyond policies and take meaningful actions to nurture diversity, address discrimination swiftly, and promote mental health and well-being. #idahobit #internationaldayagainsthomophobiabiphobiaandtransphobia #lgbtq #dei #diversityequityinclusion #inclusiveworkplaces #nooneleftbehind

Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) holds immense significance within the LGBTQ+ community and serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by transgender and gender-diverse individuals. It's a day to honour the lives lost to transphobic violence and discrimination, highlighting the urgency of addressing and eradicating transphobia from our society. As Trans Awareness Week concludes, November 20th is dedicated to Trans Day of Remembrance — a solemn day for reflection, remembrance, and solidarity. The statistics shared about the abuse and mental health challenges faced by trans and gender-diverse individuals are stark reminders of the ongoing struggle. Despite progress, these numbers underscore the critical need for continued efforts to create a safer, more inclusive world for everyone. #TDOR #TransDayOfRemembrance #TransRightsAreHumanRights #RememberTransLives #TransVisibility #EndTransphobia #LGBTQ+ #TransgenderRights #TransAlly #InclusiveWorld

There are things you know when you live them. I unfortunately know really few people who never experienced physical or verbal violence in the #lgbtq community. I am thankful everyday for all the improvement which happened those past years. I am greatefull whatever your belief is toward people beeing respectful toward the lgbtq community. I am greatefull and happy for all people living their true life and beeing their true self able to reach happiness whoever they like and whoever they want to be. Two-thirds (64%) of LGBTQ+ people had experienced anti-LGBT+ violence or abuse. Seven in ten trans people (70%) report being impacted by transphobia when accessing general health services. Nearly half of trans people (45%) said that their GP did not have a good understanding of their needs as a trans person, rising to over half of non-binary people (55%). 90% of trans people reported experiencing delays when seeking transition-related healthcare. One in eight LGBT people (13%) have experienced some form of unequal treatment from healthcare staff because they’re LGBT. Almost one in four LGBT people (23%) have witnessed discriminatory or negative remarks against LGBT people by healthcare staff. Only half of lesbian, gay and bi people (46 per cent) and trans people (47 per cent) feel able to be open about their sexual orientation or gender identity to everyone in their family. More than a third of LGBT staff (35%) have hidden that they are LGBT at work for fear of discrimination. Life is all about happiness until it ends 🌈❤️ Be an ally. Everyone need your kindness. Today, May 17th, is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. The world is seeing hard-won progress in protecting the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people – but there is still a long road ahead. Community Forward SF is committed to cultivating an anti-oppressive and collaborative culture in all the work that we do. We believe that homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia have no place in any of the work that we do, or in the world at large - and we strive to protect individuals facing discrimination in every facet of our organization. Let's continue to work towards a world free of discrimination and prejudice. #IDAHOBIT #LGBTQ+

Hypnotherapist | Counsellor | Coach | LGBT+ affirmative | Trainer | Author | Speaker | Warwick District and Town Councillor | Multi-award winner | Chair of Warwickshire Pride
Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. Really this needs to be every day. Hate towards LGBT+ communities is rising, particularly towards trans people. I stand against all forms of hate. I stand against homophobia, biphobia, lesbophobia, transphobia, and all hate aimed at LGBT+ people. Everyone should be able to live freely as who they are. Living authentically is a powerful way to live. But hate, prejudice snd discrimination stops that from happening for too many people. As a gay person and an ally of people of all other LGBT+ identities, I am committed to continuing to educate therapists on working with LGBT+ people and raising standards in our profession. It's very much needed. As an LGBT+ affirmative therapist, I am here for all LGBT+ people in need of therapy with a therapist who will never judge and will always affirm and accept your identity. #IDOHOBIT #IDAHOBIT2024 #LGBTAffirmativeTherapy #LGBTaffirmative #InclusiveTherapy #LGBTQ #TherapistLife #Therapy #Therapist #Counselling #Counsellor #Hypnotherapy #Hypnotherapist #Hypnosis #Hypnotist
