At SPARC ~ Reston we made New Year Wreaths! Do you know about this tradition? In Japan, the New Year’s wreath is called shimekazari and is made of twine, twigs, paper strips, and a tangerine. It is a common sight at entrances to homes and offices. The wreath is hung on the front door to ward off evil spirits and welcome good luck and prosperity.
In the United States, wreaths are commonly associated with Christmas and are hung on doors as a symbol of welcome and hospitality. However, there are no specific wreath traditions associated with New Year’s Day in the United States.
What other ways to you usher in the new year?
