🥁Active Giving has been selected to take part of the GREENTECH FESTIVAL 𝐆𝐓𝐅 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐮𝐩 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝 2024! The GTF represents a great platform for Active Giving to promote the topic of #sustainablesports and to raise awareness around the importance of more #physicalmovement in society. Not only because the GTF was created by former Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, a great athlete and eco-preneur, moreover ➡ because the physical 𝐢𝐧-activity crisis is as important (even more important?!) as the current climate crisis. Thus we need to address theses crisis together with major industries and their leaders. Indeed without a healthy and active population, there can not be real #sustainability 💚 Taking place in Berlin, May 15-17, this is also quite special for us since that is where everything started for Active Giving. “Peter, you write about the future. What are you most excited to see in 2024?” My answer? An ever-growing number of ‘ocean-protecting’ startups. The need for them is undoubtable. Our oceans: ‣ Cover over 70% of Earth’s surface ‣ Absorb around 25% of CO2 emissions  ‣ Support almost 3 billion peoples’ livelihoods ‣ …among other things. As Chris Gorell Barnes pointed out to Impact Investor in March: “if the oceans fail, we fail.” The world desperately needs startups restoring marine ecosystems and preventing future damage to them (thereby ensuring their ability to perform ecosystem services, like carbon storage.) That’s why it’s been great to see ocean investors building up their war chests, this year: ‣ Ocean 14 Capital now has over €150m under management ‣ Blue Action Accelerator is ready to invest $150k tickets in (pre-)seed ventures ‣ SWEN Capital Partners closed its €170 million Blue Ocean Fund in March How that capital is deployed, in 2024 and beyond, is all to play for. But it could be in startups like: ‣ Bureo Inc – “turning fishing net pollution into recycled raw materials” ‣ Ava Ocean – “reinventing seabed seafood harvesting” ‣ InX Tech – making open ocean mapping “cleaner and cheaper” Which leads me to the question: which ocean startups would you like to see investors back, next year?
