too many interviewers forget the art of listening to responses, and while you may have points you want covered, follow up on the responses. You might learn something

I've always said you can't write well if you don't interview well. Because the story comes from the interviews. As does the color of any story. As a Poynter writing fellow decades ago, we had a session on how to conduct good interviews. I still follow the concepts!!

I had one professor who made us record interviews and gave us feedback on them. In retrospect, this should have happened with almost all of my professors, and yet... nope.

It's one of the reasons I hate email interviews. I don't consider them truly interviews, just simply responding to a few questions. And you can't follow up up.
