“Of course, you're saving on your electricity bill because you're generating a lot of your own power, but you can get a faster payback if you're also being paid by the grid for excess power.” — PowerFlex's Head of Product Marketing Mary Cauwels on virtual power plants In case you missed it, check out our recent blog to learn how VPPs create value, how providers like us help with participation, and why it's never too late to get involved: https://bit.ly/497SM4q

This is a good discussion about VPPs - and Camus Energy openly describe the primary purpose a peaking resource .. a Virtual Peaking Plant. “According to the DOE, a VPP of residential thermostats, water heaters, EV chargers, and batteries could deliver peaking capacity at about half the net cost of a natural gas peaker plant or utility-scale battery. “ This — and Camus talks about the two VPP models — is driven by the existing supply side control of the energy system. “Utilities typically use a DER management system (DERMS) to monitor and manage their utility-operated VPP. Their DERMS partner may aid in many of the responsibilities above, but ultimately the utility operates and manages the VPP.” There’s little or no interest of using flexibility for genuine temporal shifting of load … which - with Energy Cost Efficiency - lower the consumers own bills and reduce peaks and volatility. The problem is that utilities, generators, retailers (esp gentailers) have no - zero - interest in such “solutions” as it costs them money. We need to move to digitisation of energy, a transactional system, that sees (DOE - Dynamic Operating Envelopes) capacity signal and (wholesale) price signals so that system wide Energy Cost Efficiency is the norm not rarity. —- with all the drama (playing out in Parliament, Senate Enquiries, and the press) of Supermarket price gouging and inappropriate business practices … our three dominant gentailers don’t send consumers ANY price signals. Why don’t we see a political uproar demanding better for energy consumers? The Pearcey Foundation’s Australia 4.0 program seeks to deliver benefits to consumers through ICT - data and technology - for both individual Consumers and crucially the Community. One of the ways we are working with our customers to help reduce strain on the grid is through Virtual Power Plant frameworks, where the energy supply side meets innovation on the demand side. Supporting and accelerating demand side innovations through energy orchestration – in which utilities act more as a network to conduct and manage a wide variety of generation sources to create customer value, increase reliability and provide energy where and when it’s needed. A future we can write #together!
We recently shared with Cipher News how we’re using a Virtual Power Plant, allowing us to dial down or redirect energy demand from residential and business customers, to help us relieve some stress on the grid and dispatch energy where and when it’s needed. http://ms.spr.ly/6040ivB38

What is a Virtual Power Plant? A virtual power plant (VPP) is an innovative energy management system that enables renewable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines to be connected to produce and store energy. This system is used to better manage energy supply and demand, improving energy efficiency and reducing costs. What are the benefits of Virtual Power Plants? VPPs can improve the efficiency of energy production and storage by enabling renewable energy sources to be used more effectively. They can also reduce energy costs by providing a more reliable and cost-effective energy supply. VPPs can also help reduce carbon emissions by using renewable energy sources instead of traditional fossil fuels. What does the future of Virtual Power Plants look like? The future of VPPs looks incredibly promising, as the technology continues to develop. With the increasing demand for renewable energy sources, and the growing need to reduce emissions, VPPs will become increasingly important in energy management. Virtual Power Plants are an innovative technology that offer many potential benefits to energy users. From improved efficiency and cost savings to reduced emissions, VPPs are paving the way for a greener future. #VPP #EnergyEfficiency #RenewableEnergy
