If you look closely, this picture represents a marriage of passive air defense & passive air surveillance concepts during a force on force application. I got a chance to get a first hand look at the capability Andruil's Lattice & WISP systems can provide to the Marine Corps stand-in force. Looking forward to seeing more of this kind of technology make it into the hands of our C2 warfighters.

A very good illustration of the complexity of a C4ISR system that underlines a key point. The performance of the primary systems- be they radar, radio, jammer or optics (or the people who crew them!) is only as good as the thermal cooling systems and power generation that underpin them. A reliable C4I node needs rock solid cooling. That work when it's hot (and no, not all cooling systems do!). Or cold. Or wet. Or dry. Or high. Or when they've just been kicked off the back of a helo in the dark by a loadmaster who's so damn tired that the only thing keeping her head up is the chinstrap on her helmet. So...make sure it was built by experts who understand quality, rigorous testing, tightly controlled working practices. Becauae the second law of thermodynamics is not your friend.
The service anticipates fielding its first Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) in 2024, a C2 system that will be a centerpiece for the air defense effort. http://ow.ly/LIKT104QN8B

Sharing an article that captures recent messaging from Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin regarding the Air Force's commitment to managing CCA costs by "writing affordability into the requirements." While this is not unexpected given budget tightness and the exploding costs of many defense programs, particularly airborne platforms, this decision does not come without tradeoffs. The Air Force will likely sacrifice capabilities, and therefore the missions CCAs can support, if it stands firm on its commitment to affordability. On the flip side, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall's commentary regarding the potential to include some of our nation’s “closest” and “most strategic” partner nations in upcoming CCA increments does provide an alternative pathway to reduce the cost burden on the US taxpayer. If the Air Force is able to complement DOD funding with investment from our allies, the Air Force may be able to mitigate capability sacrifices while maintaining affordability. BCE Consulting (BCE) Aerospace & Defense practice will continue to monitor the evolution of the CCA initiative with a particular eye towards how the upcoming down-selects and decisions regarding allied involvement play out. J12 Solutions CEO Spoke at AOC’s Dixie Crows Event The Dixie Crow’s Chapter of the Association of Old Crows (AOC) focused its 2023 training on Collaborative and Cooperative EW. During 2024, the Dixie Crows is looking at this problem space from the Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS) perspective. On February 16th, presenter Kevin Stilwell was joined by Bryan Johnson to discuss the driving force for EW cooperation: IADS. What does the IADS do? How does it increase the effectiveness of our adversaries? What are some approaches from an EW perspective to reduce this effectiveness? Spoiler alert! This leads right back to cooperation in the EW domain with our wingman, other services, and coalition partners.

Little is known about the secretive U.S. Air Force Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, but it has been announced that the fighter will be selected in 2024. The program is designed to replace the F-22 Raptor with a sixth-generation fighter capable of operating and achieving air superiority in the face of advanced integrated air defense systems and fighter aircraft, and officials have noted that the price tag will be enormous. Read more about the program on Forecast International’s blog, the Defense & Security Monitor: https://hubs.li/Q01-G-Jb0 #ForecastInternational #defensenews #NGAD #USAirForce #USdefensebudget #F-22

Fast Facts In the coming decades, the Department of Defense plans to spend an estimated $1.7 trillion on nearly 2,500 F-35s. Most of the funds will go to operating, maintaining, and repairing the aircraft. DOD faces costly maintenance issues for the F-35, such as: Delays setting up military service depots—facilities to complete the most complex repairs Inadequate equipment to keep aircraft operational Maintenance and supply delays affecting aircraft readiness Also, while DOD intends to transition more maintenance responsibilities from contractors to the government, it doesn't have a plan to achieve this goal. https://lnkd.in/gr67fw_B

ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG: These issues—lack of USG due diligence—are common place throughout the FMS ecosystem. But remain unacknowledged and hidden by management. With combat operations, they bubble to the top quickly. "Providing PATRIOT air defense systems to the UAF without a strategy for sustainment increases risks to both the DoD and Ukraine. Specifically, Ukraine may not be able to independently sustain the systems, and the DoD may face challenges supporting PATRIOT systems in Ukraine while still maintaining readiness of U.S. PATRIOT air defense systems." A revealing read. Will this be just another report filed away with no concrete action taken? Shall we bet a buffalo nickel?
