Super lucky to be at #CERAWeek 2024! Lots of things to take in about energy: policy, technology, capital deployment… Energy friends: message me if you’re around! I’d love to connect. Some things I’m learning: 1. We need all kinds of solutions to energy for the future and wide-scale emissions reduction on production and consumption 2. AI is a big part of our energy present and future! Opportunities for efficiency and problem-solving are astounding. And its use bolsters energy demands. 3. Clean energy and decarbonization needs a balance of supply, demand and infrastructure. Pro-tip for policy: be technology agnostic, provide guidelines and frameworks and let industry/academia/public-private partnerships innovate. 4. Financing the energy future is in active modernization. Investing in clean energy and decarbonization requires a different viewpoint.

🎉 Wrapping Up an Unforgettable Journey at the SHV Energy Hackathon! 🎉 And just like that, our first-ever SHV Energy Hackathon comes to a spectacular close! I couldn't be prouder of the ingenuity, collaboration, and sheer grit our teams displayed over the last three days. Six teams tackled six substantial challenges and presented solutions that are nothing short of revolutionary. These are not just ideas; they are actionable solutions crafted to have a significant impact on our business. What's incredible is the atmosphere—the room was filled with nothing but positive energy. Even those who didn't clinch the top spot left feeling like winners. Why? Because the experience itself was the real prize. The learning, the friendships formed, and the collaborative spirit were truly invaluable. And to think that all these problems were literally "hacked away" in less than 72 hours is awe-inspiring. To everyone involved: Thank you for bringing your A-game and for creating something magical Hiroshi Esther Tom Fabiana. This hackathon wasn't just an event; it was a testament to what we can achieve when we come together as a community of innovators. Here's to the many more milestones we'll achieve together! 🌟 I will post some nicer photos as soon as I get them from the photographer! #SHVEnergy #Hackathon2023 #Innovation #Collaboration #daretoinnovate #shvenergyhackathon2023 #PositiveVibes #BusinessImpact #LearningAndGrowing #UnforgettableExperience

We kicked off the Deep Tech Climate Innovations Startup Challenge at CES with a Networking Reception, where Victoria Slivkoff invited special guest Dr. Vanessa Z Chan, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Chief Commercialization Officer, Office of Technology Transitions, to a fireside chat. They covered a lot of territory. The theme of the discussion was deep tech and what’s happening in energy and the energy transition. With regard to commercialization and the impact of national sovereignty, how do we develop our internal capabilities and parlay that into economic development? How do we democratize opportunities so the impact and the benefit can be felt by all? How do we mobilize partnership models to commercialize – and scale – deep tech climate innovations? Dr. Chan's insights and comments: ⚡Public and private sectors must merge efforts and find the best ways to bring deep tech climate innovations to the market. ⚡ Energy transition needs to be enabled by the government but led by the private sector. “We need to drive the public-private partnerships to the next level. Nothing is commercialized unless the private sector takes over.” ⚡ How do we help technologies – not just across the DoE’s 17 national labs, but across the nation – get into the hands of the consumer? Time is of the essence. Vanessa sent a clear call to action to the audience, which included #startups, #investors, industry experts and public and private sector #stakeholders. ⌛ “There’s no time to wait. Our kids don’t have time for this. I want you to act now. We just need to move.” Watch the full program of the Deep Tech Climate Innovations Challenge Reception at CES. Or just catch the fireside chat from 14:49-32:55. 👉 https://2ly.link/1w3Cl It’s a fascinating conversation. #deeptech #climatesolutions #energytransition #impact #innovation Young Bill Lars Catherine Secorro Nancy Shail John Cadence Design Systems Nicole 7Analytics Barrow Green, LLC. Join RWI Synthetics at EPRI’s Incubatenergy Labs Demo Days in Vancouver on November 1 and 2, 2023! (https://lnkd.in/eKty3rUZ). If you are Energy Resilience Equity curious, we will be demonstrating the Art of the Accomplished with Synthetic Populations and Synthetic Energy Futures with our Incubatenergy Labs, TVA, NES, and City of Nashville project partners. In this project, we synthesized Nashville’s energy infrastructure, built environment, and living population to explore high-risk cold-snap events and their consequences in the community. We focused on informing both the grid and the community with detailed insight into electricity demand - heat pumps and plug-in electrified heat, household behaviour, and point-in-time load demand curves at each address - as well as demographic and medical vulnerability to quantify diverse, intersectional individual resilience vulnerabilities utilized to measure gaps in community resilience access. In other words, we made the cold snap happen virtually in Synthetic Nashville, observed individual household responses, then turned their power off for varying amounts of time, and measured what happened to people - impact, gaps, and outcomes. Grab some popcorn and watch some of the project outcomes! #Energy #Resilience #SyntheticPopulation #EnergyFutures #Infrastructure #BuiltEnvironment #ElectricityDemand #HeatPumps #ElectrifiedHeat #Demographics #MedicalVulnerability #SyntheticNashville https://lnkd.in/gxtG3raD

Thrilled to collaborate with Arthur Bessières on our latest piece considering the Carbon Cost of Compute 👇 ⚡️ Today, artificial intelligence (AI) and associated compute is consuming 2% of the world's energy demand, with the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasting this could increase to 8% within the next two years. 🖥️ Incumbents are already talking about the carbon compute problem. For example, Microsoft has warned it may not be able to meet it's climate goals as a result of the exponential demand for AI technologies, citing a 30% increase in carbon emissions compared to 4 years ago largely due to AI. 👩⚖️ The European Union has specifically called out data center energy use in its European Green Deal, while the US's Renewable Energy Tax Credit incentivises renewable energy adoption to power data centers. 🔌 There are many innovators across the value chain from hardware design, modular data centers, photonics technologies, cooling technologies, AI model optimisation, and load sharing. 🗺️ Read the piece for a full market map. As ever, if you're building in the space don't hesitate to reach out 👋
🌟 Excited to share our latest collaboration with Estia Ryan, Principal and Head of Research at Eka Ventures! We explored AI's impact on energy consumption and carbon production, highlighting innovative startups from hardware design to model optimization or load sharing. https://lnkd.in/evUGXHi3
