When it came to planning our ExSEPtional Summer Enrichment Program this year, the one thing I knew for sure I needed to make happen was swimming lessons. As a self-proclaimed "Water Baby", it breaks my heart to know how many of my people don't have the same relationship with water. So, I reached out to Dr. Ayanna Rakhu , who has the same passion, to make sure our students in the POPLI program would have access to this life-saving, and -giving skill. We're thrilled to announce our partnership with V3 Sports for our Summer Enrichment Swim to Learn Program! The drowning death rate for Black people in America is 1.5 times higher than the death rate for whites. This sobering statistic makes us even more excited about this partnership and the opportunity for BIPOC youth to learn to swim. We believe swimming is a vital life skill for youth, and to secure this opportunity, we need to raise $10,000 to sponsor six weeks of swim lessons for our summer youth.
