Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of State released the 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report, providing a comprehensive overview of the state of human trafficking around the world. The Report discusses how technology plays an important role in combating human trafficking and how it is being used to improve awareness and outreach efforts to support worker engagement and empowerment. We are proud to see Polaris’s Nonechka project mentioned in this section of the Report: “Through its Nonechka project, Polaris collaborated with technology partner Ulula on a platform that allows farmworkers in Mexico and now in the United States to share their experiences, including information on risky recruitment and employment processes. This information also helps Polaris formulate prevention strategies, as well as inform workers about their rights, wages, and working conditions and how to access general services locally including emergency, transitional, or long-term services.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehYbvfty

TIP Report 2024 is here. Among other recommendations, RO state has to "proactively identify trafficking victims by fully implementing the new NRM and screening for trafficking indicators among vulnerable populations, including Roma, asylum-seekers, migrants, children living in government-run institutions or under supervision of child protection services, and individuals in commercial sex and institutionalize an independent and effective mechanism to monitor the rights of persons with disabilities and elderly persons living in government residential treatment centers." In 2023, the government identified 428 victims (279 sex trafficking, 50 labor trafficking, and 99 unspecified forms of trafficking), a modest decrease from 492 in 2022. Of the 428 victims, 218 were children (51 percent), and 139 were girl sex trafficking victims. The vast majority of identified victims were Romanian citizens, of which 320 were exploited in the country and 123 were exploited in Western Europe.

Safe guard your businesses reputation from being the "brand of human traffickers." Businesses face numerous challenges. One of the most alarming is human trafficking, which not only wreaks havoc on the lives of its victims but also poses significant risks to a company's reputation. Human traffickers exploit vulnerabilities within communities, often infiltrating digital spaces where businesses operate. Their activities tarnish the reputation of the businesses inadvertently associated with these crimes. A single incident of human trafficking linked to a business can lead to irreparable damage, resulting in loss of trust, customer loyalty, and revenue. Innovative Approaches for Customer Safety: Innovation plays a crucial role in tackling human trafficking. Businesses can invest in skilled professionals who specialize in open-source intelligence (OSINT) to monitor online platforms where trafficking activities occur. AI-driven algorithms, can analyze vast amounts of data, helping identify and report potential cases promptly. At the core of combating human trafficking lies a commitment to ethical practices. Businesses must integrate anti-trafficking policies into their corporate social responsibility initiatives. By doing so, they not only protect their own reputation but also contribute to the greater good of society, creating a safer environment for everyone. Businesses play a pivotal role in the fight against human trafficking. https://lnkd.in/e58Wt6Kt #InnovateForJustice #BusinessesAgainstTrafficking #EndHumanTraffickingNow #EmpowerToProtect #UnitedAgainstTrafficking

🌎 2024 US TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS REPORT RELEASED 🌎 The US Government has released its 2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. This annual report evaluates 188 countries’ progress towards addressing trafficking in persons (a form of modern slavery) against US Government minimum standards. KEY FINDINGS 🟣 The report includes a focus on the need to elevate the voice and agency of workers. It highlights that businesses should proactively support workers and their ability to advocate for themselves, set clear expectations of suppliers and address practices that may create environments conducive to exploitation. 🟣 The report assesses that only 30 countries have made efforts to address the issue of trafficking in persons that meet the US Government’s minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking in persons. These include Australia, the United Kingdom and United States. 🟣 The report tracks reported data about the number of trafficking survivors identified and the number of corresponding prosecutions and convictions. In 2023, there were over 133,000 victims identified globally with approximately 18,500 prosecutions and 7,000 convictions reported. KEY TAKEAWAYS FOR BUSINESSES In light of the TIP Report findings, businesses can: ⚠ Review the TIP Report country profiles for countries where the business operates in or sources from and consider integrating this information into modern slavery (and broader human rights) risk assessments. ⚠ Explore opportunities to uphold workers’ rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining including in partnership with external stakeholders (e.g. global union federations), with a focus on vulnerable populations such as migrant workers. ⚠ Review expectations set for suppliers in relation to trafficking in persons and strengthen those expectations where needed, as well as considering opportunities to build supplier capacity to meet those expectations. Online harassment against women is a pervasive issue, cases where Fraudsters create fake accounts to exploit vulnerable individuals, down to swindling ( TBS report, 2023), extortion, and manipulation has been a regular phenomenon. Women often face a barrage of unwanted advances, manipulation, and financial exploitation in digital spaces, eroding their sense of safety and well-being. This insidious form of harassment doesn't stop here, women are subjected to harassment in the virtual horizons as well (Shen, 2022). Not only does it undermines trust in online interactions but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and power imbalances. It's imperative for society to take action to combat online harassment, whether through Media Literacy awareness campaigns, or stronger enforcement of laws against cybercrime. By collectively standing against online harassment, we can create safer and more inclusive digital environments for everyone. #axis_MIL #genderequality #MediaInformationLiteracy #cybersecurityawareness #CyberCrimeAwareness #stoponlineharassment #axis_mil

Why do youth serving organizations need to talk about #sextortion? Of course the word sounds scary to those not empowered with the information they need to protect themselves and their children. Experts in #childprotection know a LOT more about this evolving threat than they did just two years ago and of course that’s welcome - financially motivated groups, organized crime praying on our children from the next city or the next continent and the steps #BigTech and the financial sector can take towards #prevention But it is OUR KIDS and OUR PARENTS who need to know the facts and crucially to #BEPREPARED if it happens to them. That’s why youth serving organizations need to talk about sextortion. 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/g9Y3WUAJ

"The estimated half a million predators that are known to be online at any time know the internet is a vast playground for children that are online [an] upwards [of] eight hours a day, most of them unmonitored, unfiltered, unrestricted," to quote Titania Jordan (Chief Parent Officer @ Bark) Emmanuelle Saliba (ABC News) writes today that "more needs to be done to help protect children from online predators" Resolver, a Kroll Business (formerly Crisp) was founded by Adam Hildreth in 2005 to protect children online. Today we support a wide range of platforms to protect both children and adults from harmful behaviours including grooming, extortion, scams, extremism and harassment. Many of these problems are not new, but bad actor behaviour continues to evolve. Adversaries find new platforms, new tradecraft and new victims for their 'taking' and have no intention to stop. Much of the technology and knowledge to deal with these issues exists. The adoption, usage and prioritisation of it is key. If you're looking to join the fight to 'do more' we are continuing to hire - https://lnkd.in/eXKn-jaK - and have teams working around 24/7 to protect "you and your children". #trustandsafety #safetytech #techforgood #onlineharms
