BIC member EvoEnzyme is one of 15 companies that took part in a pitching webinar exclusively for BIC members. These pitching webinars are part of BIC's networking activities, encouraging BIC members to introduce themselves, their line of business and areas for possible partnership and collaboration. As BIC covers a diverse range of sectors across the value chain, companies from different industries don't necessarily know each other or have experience of working together. Through introductions like these, they find synergies, complementary areas of interest and find out about the possibilties of working together. And "together" is how we'll grow Europe's bio-based industries as part of Europe's green transition!
We are very pleased to have recently joined Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC)! As new member of the consortium, EvoEnzyme participated in the webinar “Pitches by new BIC Industry Members” held last week, along with other companies that have also recently joined BIC. This webinar was a great opportunity for companies to present themselves through a brief pitch, highlighting their expertise and areas for potential collaboration on projects with other BIC members. Thank you very much for the organization of this session in which Prof. Miguel Alcalde shared the role of EvoEnzyme providing sustainable solutions to the industry!

We are pleased to share our involvement in the #cbesf23 Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Stakeholders Forum, one of the largest gatherings for Europe's bio-based industry. This event united a variety of stakeholders, from startups to large corporations, investors, government, and regulatory bodies, to explore bio-based sector advancements. Joško Bobanović, Partner at Sofinnova Partners, contributed to the panel on “Making bio-based companies and projects bankable.” Moderated by Charlotte Van Velthoven-Geerdink, the group delved into the critical aspects of financing innovative bio-based projects and companies. Also present were Joachim Merziger from AFYREN and Alex Michine from MetGen, both Sofinnova portfolio companies, contributing to the discussion. Key topics included exploring creative financing methods for industrial projects, the crucial role of partnerships, and the necessity of market buy-in before making substantial investments. Discussions emphasized the importance of confirming market demand through off-take agreements and acknowledged the support of CBE JU in financing flagship projects that catalyze first-of-a-kind facilities. A significant takeaway is the need to attract commercial lenders to invest in innovative projects, leveraging loan guarantee programs. Such initiatives are vital for drawing investment into cutting-edge, sustainable technologies that are shaping the future of the bio-based industry. #sustainability #industrialbiotech Joško Bobanović Michael Krel Mary McCarthy Guillaume Baxter Anna Belousova

CBE JU Stakeholder Forum 2023: A look back The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Stakeholder Forum #CBESF2023 in Brussels brought together the spearhead of the European #bioeconomy, which gave our colleague Sabine Reising deep insights into the current state of development. We would like to share the following takeaways with you: 🗃 Regulatory challenges and support for companies A key point of discussion was the strong EU #regulation and its impact on small and innovative companies. For example, Microphyt has been forced to enter the US market as they are currently barred from selling their microalgae-based ingredients in the EU. Such circumstances emphasise the need to create #opportunities and #incentives to encourage innovation on home soil. 🌱 The role of the bioeconomy Compared to fossil fuel technologies, the bioeconomy is still young and has many development hurdles to overcome in order to be competitive. #Collaboration, as Craig Johnston from ENOUGH highlighted, is therefore essential for success. 📢 Importance of communication and networking The complexity of the bioeconomy can deter large investors, which is why, as Joachim Merziger of AFYREN emphasised in the panel discussion, #communication and #education are crucial. A lack of communication and networking between #projects with similar goals is an untapped opportunity. #Industry and #research #clusters are essential building blocks for a broad #transfer of knowledge and exchange of experience. The upcoming exchange within the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme is a step in the right direction and we are looking forward to pick up learnings for TeBiCE Territorial Biorefineries. 💤 Risk appetite and market demand The low willingness to take #risks in Europe and the lack of #market pull are slowing down the bioeconomy in Europe as well as the high demand for #perfection that weighs on green innovations as Peep Pitk, Chief Development Officer at Fibenol stressed. 🚀 Solutions and outlook for the future A solid data basis and #monitoring are important building blocks for making change measurable. But to do this, we need to set clear responsibilities and targets. Let's focus less on perfection and more on concrete steps in the right direction.

Many thanks to all participants of today’s #CBEInfoDay on the 2024 call for project proposals. €213mio funding for 18 topics, that is what I call “a workplan with impact”! It was rewarding to see your strong interest in the call and new project ideas emerging. Our collective efforts in the bio-based innovation are pivotal in addressing Europe’s competitiveness and sustainability challenges. This is one of the partnership’s largest calls, and it is about accelerating #biobased capacity all over Europe. Through the CBE JU public-private partnership, we are committed to creating local supply chains and bringing innovative circular products to the market. We need to engage all actors of the value chain to make this happen. This is why the call will support the participation of primary producers, among other important actors, and focus on involving regions underrepresented in the programme. Thank you once again for your commitment to advance a #competitive #bioeconomy together! https://lnkd.in/eGVNrWf7

PhD, Innovation & Project Manager | Public funding manager | Bio-based economy | Health | MBA🧬Supporting innovative organizations in the field of biotechnology in developing R&DI projects and in obtaining public funding
The Circular ♻️ Bio-based 🌱 Economy is the way to respond to climate change and resource scarcity, while contributing to economic development at the same time! This is why it is important to support it and encourage its development! But to make it happen requires joined effort among several initiatives. The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) support projects: ➡️ contributing to replacing non-renewable fossil resources with waste and sustainably sourced biomass to produce industrial and consumer goods ➡️ aiming to accelerate the innovation process and development of bio-based innovative solutions ➡️ aiming to accelerate market deployment of the existing mature and innovative biobased solutions ➡️ carried out in close collaboration between stakeholders along the entire bio-based value chain A lot of synergy could be found with projects funded under the Horizon Europe Cluster 6: Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment. Within the CL6 funded project Biomodel4Regions, that I am coordinating, we are contributing to Circular ♻️ Bio-based 🌱 Economy by: ➡️ Supporting the development of regional/local strategies for the bioeconomy in six regions in Europe; ➡️ Developing new business models to allow consumers, industry, producers and public bodies to adopt more environmentally responsible behaviour. This will allow to create the ground for the deployment of Innovations on the Market by complementing other public funding. Synergies, networking and cooperation could really unlock the potential of the Circular ♻️ Bio-based 🌱 Economy! #circulareconomy #bioeconomy #funding

Yesterday President Ursula von der Leyen in her #soteu address underlined that the European Union must support the transition of companies towards #greentechnologies , which is key to maintain industrial #competitiveness and attract investments to European soil. Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) plays a significant role in powering this transition towards a #circular bio-based economy. The work of the public-private partnership between the European Commission and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) contributes to the objectives stated in the State of the Union by transforming the EU into a modern, resource-efficient, and competitive economy. Through the direct funding of research and innovation projects and its ambitious Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, CBE JU plays a key role in making the EU Green Deal a great opportunity for European companies. CBE JU also promotes dialogue among a wide range of stakeholders, including industry, the scientific community, Member States, financial institutions, and primary producers. This facilitates the achievement of a strong impact: ✔ by funding first-of-a-kind biorefineries led by European companies, generating growth, new jobs and technological leadership; ✔ by leveraging 2.8€ of private investments for every € of EU funding; ✔ by supporting innovative European #SMEs that benefit from 37% of CBE JU funding; ✔ by supporting primary producers in diversifying their income, focusing on inclusive value chains; ✔ by ensuring a high level of environmental sustainability of industrial processes, resulting in less CO² emissions compared to fossil-based alternatives. Find more details about CBE JU's impact in each country in our new infographics: https://lnkd.in/eZQEWaS4 #SOTEU #SOTEU2023 | John Bell | Rob Beekers | Dirk Carrez
