This Pride Month, we're celebrating the beautiful diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. While acceptance is growing, there's a critical need for more research on mental health within this vibrant population. Why is this important? • Many mental health resources don't accurately reflect the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. • Discrimination, homophobia, and prejudice create significant barriers to accessing and trusting support services. • Studies shows the LGBTQ+ community experiences higher rates of depression, anxiety, and unmet healthcare needs. We stand with the LGBTQ+ community by: • Creating a safe and inclusive space for open communication. • Providing access to mental health professionals who understand the specific needs of LGBTQ+ individuals. • Building a supportive community where everyone feels welcome to share their experiences. Join us in creating a world where everyone can access the mental health support they deserve. Let's break down barriers and prioritize mental well-being for all! #lgbtq #lgbtqmentalhealth #mentalhealthawarness #psychologistsonlinkedin #psychologist #psychology #psychstats #lgbtqpride #pridemonth #supporteachother #healthcareneed #educateyourself #lgbtqcommunity #beproud #theconfessionboxx

🏳️🌈 Happy #PrideMonth, y'all! 🏳️🌈 This month is about celebrating love (because love is love ❤️, and don't cha love it? 🤗), but it's also about spreading awareness about the hardships and challenges LGBTQ+ communities face. Let's take a moment to talk about #mentalhealth. LGBTQ+ people experience high rates of mental health challenges. Personal, family and social acceptance of sexual orientation and gender identity greatly affects their mental health and personal safety, and discrimination has been associated with high rates of psychiatric disorders, substance use disorder and suicide. And when it comes to getting care, it's not always easy peasy, as stigma, lack of cultural sensitivity, and unconscious and conscious reluctance to address sexuality may hamper effectiveness. As an industry, let's do our part to drop the stigma, discrimination and bias in all its forms by working together to close the gaps in receiving proper care. 💜 #behavioralhealth #healthequity #mentalhealthmatters

Breaking the silence on LGBTQ+ Mental Health In June, Pride Month, Rcoz is highlighting the mental health challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Being part of a minority is difficult, but for LGBTQ+ individuals, the challenges are even greater. Many experience confusion and fear in their youth, trying to fit in and stay silent about their identity. The trauma of coming out, along with fears of rejection, ostracization, and persecution, can lead to mental health struggles, addictions, and even suicide. It is therefore crucial for the LGBTQ+ individuals to have their experiences and identities validated. According to Mental Health America, 4.5% of the U.S. population identifies as LGBTQ+. Of these individuals, 39% reported mental illness in the past year, affecting 5.8 million people or 1.75% of the total population. It's important to understand that being LGBTQ+ is not a mental illness or disorder. However, it can impact mental health due to various challenges. Rcoz takes mental health crises very seriously and that’s why we have placed an emphasis on story telling in our mission statement. Stories of everyday people navigating the complexities of being different or facing challenges in being accepted for who they are help others in feeling they are not alone in their struggles. It can initiate change encouraging the viewer to get help and begin their recovery journey. Sharing lived experiences also helps bring awareness and the hope of removing the stigma of being different. It can foster empathy and compassion. So let’s share our stories and work together to bring change and acceptance. Clinical Psychologist, Trauma Informed and Queer Affirmative Psychotherapist, Expressive Arts Therapist and Educator at 'My Safe Space', 'The Beautiful Mind' and 'Manipal Hospitals'.
#trauma #informed #queer #affirmative #Psychotherapist #sensitive #fear #judgement #diverse #survivor #mentalhealth #awareness I often get asked, "What or who is a Trauma Informed and Queer Affirmative Psychotherapist?" Here goes- A trauma-informed therapist is someone who has received training in understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and is sensitive to the needs of trauma survivors. They approach therapy with an understanding of how trauma can affect a person's mental, emotional, and physical well-being, and they strive to create a safe and supportive environment for their clients. A queer-affirmative therapist is someone who is knowledgeable and supportive of LGBTQ+ identities and experiences. They create a space where individuals can explore their identities, relationships, and experiences without fear of judgment or discrimination. They are often aware of the unique challenges and issues faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and work to address them sensitively in therapy. A therapist who is both trauma-informed and queer-affirmative would integrate these two perspectives into their practice. They would understand how trauma can intersect with LGBTQ+ identities and experiences and would be able to provide culturally competent and affirming care to clients from diverse backgrounds. You matter, Your Story Matters!✌🏼️

As we approach Pride Month, it's essential to highlight the mental health and substance use challenges that disproportionately impact the LGBTQ+ communities. According to Mental Health America, among U.S. adults, 4.5 percent identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Of those 39% reported having a mental illness in the last year. The bisexual and transgender communities have the highest rates of mental health concerns within the LGBTQ+ population. Younger members of the LGBTQ+ community struggle the most with mental health concerns of all the age groups. LGBTQ+ people are at higher risk for experiencing shame, fear, discrimination, and adverse and traumatic events. These stressors can cause a higher prevalence of substance use and mental health issues. Often stigma, lack of cultural sensitivity, and unconscious and conscious reluctance to address sexuality may hamper effectiveness of care. Approximately 8 percent of LGBTQ+ individuals and nearly 27 percent of transgender individuals report being denied needed health care outright. At Greenbranch Recovery, we celebrate LGBTQ+ communities with a reminder: You belong. You matter. Your mental health matters. And you are not alone. Greenbranch Recovery is a premier NJ alcohol and drug rehab located in Egg Harbor Township. Everyone who attends our treatment center is treated with dignity and respect. Each client is assessed individually to determine their specific requirements and find the perfect mixture of therapeutic approaches to meet their needs.
