UK-Be Maritime Innovation Day Navigating the future of port operations requires a wave of talent equipped with new skills, amidst a landscape where skilled labor is too scarce to meet the increasingly complexed requirements for port operations. To explore these critical issues, the Maritime Innovation event will convene experts from both the UK and Belgian side. It aims to strengthen partnerships and alliances to shape policy and promote the advancement of emerging technologies. On February 15th, our colleague Chiara N. was re-elected to the Board of Directors representing CETENA at the General Assembly of WaterborneTP, in Brussels. For the next two years, CETENA will also serve as Vice-Chair of the Board, working alongside Eero Lehtovaara (Chair, ABB Marine & Ports) and Marjolein Van Noort (Vice-Chair, Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners) in leading the association. WATERBORNE is an industrial technological platform aimed at fostering continuous dialogue between the European Union and all major representatives of maritime and inland waterways transport in Europe. CETENA and FINCANTIERI are among the approximately 120 members of WATERBORNE, collectively representing 21 EU member states. They are actively involved in the #decarbonization of the sector through the Co-Programmed Partnership ZEWT - Zero Emissions Waterborne Transport. This partnership co-finances #research and #innovation activities promoted by WATERBORNE using European funds within the HORIZON Europe 2021-27 Framework Program. The European spirit of collaboration among all stakeholders drives the activities of WATERBORNE, and CETENAโs presence on the Board is a key factor toward excellence and innovation, further strengthened by the new role of Vice-Chair in this term. It confirms the commitment of the Groupโs companies in accelerating the #green and #digital industrial transition for the maritime sector. https://www.waterborne.eu/ #Cetena #Waterborne #Fincantieri #FutureOnBoard #Research #Innovation

It was an honour for One Sea Secretary General, Sinikka Hartonen, to be invited to speak at the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) foresight session during the World Road Congress yesterday, where the panellists delved into future scenarios for global supply chains. Under the excellent moderation of Caroline Mays, AICP from the Texas Department of Transportation, the discussion highlighted the importance of multimodality and interoperability in logistics. Unexpected events shake supply chains, and as a result, trade patterns need to be reconfigured. Infrastructure owners and authorities face challenges in responding to these changes since altering physical infrastructure is often impossible. However, effective collaboration and knowledge-sharing between different transport modes can help improve responsiveness and agility. The outcome of the panel confirmed once again that while every transport mode should take steps to become more sustainable, the successful connection of different modes physically and digitally is the key to maximum impact. The audience and the panellists agreed that elements of ESG and sustainability form a solid foundation for future policies and R&D endeavours. A warm thank you to the organisers for inviting the One Sea Association to share insights on the progress in sea transport and how automation and autonomy are shaping the maritime industry. We're on a transformative journey; through forums like these, we can collectively pave the way for a more sustainable and interconnected future in transportation. I was honored and privileged to host the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Representative of Internal Audit Services (RIAS) and 15th Annual United Nations-RIAS Conference last week with my two wonderful RIAS Co-Chairs Alan Kato (IDB) and Dr Nancy Onyango (DBA) (IMF) along with the three UN-RIAS Co-Chairs Fabienne Lambert (WFP), Lisa Sutton (UN Women) and Mika Tapio (FAO). The conference brought together around 100 heads and deputies of internal audit, oversight, and investigation, from UN Agencies, Multilateral Finance Institutions, and other intergovernmental organizations. This yearโs conference was rooted in the reality that internal audit leaders need to act now to prepare our teams to face the challenges of tomorrow. With that in mind, the conference had sessions ranging from data governance, artificial intelligence, and the evolving cyber and IT risk landscape to the challenges of providing assurance in conflict zones, ESG reporting, and the revised IIA standards. Here are some of my quick takeaways: Evolution. The world is evolving. Internal audit functions need to evolve as well. This will require creativity and innovative approaches. There was a strong recognition that we need to learn from one another and focus on delivering value and positive change to our organization. Innovation and Technology. We need to continue down the innovative path. What are the challenges and opportunities presented by new technologies? How can we leverage new technology to increase efficiencies? How will we audit these new technologies as our organizations adopt them? These are all great questions that we are going to need to focus on. Collaboration. Collaboration across assurance functions is vital for us to succeed. This call to action was a central theme across all four days. How can we strengthen collaboration by sharing information, knowledge, approaches, lessons learned, expertise, staff, etc.? I am excited to take some of the ideas discussed forward over the coming weeks and months. I am also intrigued to hear from colleagues who attended and learn how they plan to apply these insights to their work. We are smarter together! Take a look at some of the highlights from the 15th UN-RIAS and 52nd RIAS Conference!

Former European Commission President, Josรฉ Manuel Barroso, wondered how many Europeans know that European shipping represents nearly 40% of the global fleet? ๐ฃ #UICrail was in Korea last week for several events, notably its 36th Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, the 22nd UIC Asia-Pacific Management Committee (APMC), the UIC - KORAIL Workshop on Best Practices of High-Speed Line Operation in Asia-Pacific, and the first Scientific Committee of the UIC High-Speed Congress planned to be held in Beijing in 2025. โก๏ธ All these meetings were organised at the invitation of KORAIL as part of the celebrations for the 20th #anniversary of the HSR in Korea, bringing together UIC members from the Asia Pacific region as well as from Europe and the USA. โก๏ธ In addition to the warm welcome, it is worth noting the special attention given by Korail to UIC members and the interest in the technical and cultural visits. In his report, UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee emphasised the importance of UIC's work on #standardisation with the support of the region, and the strong #commitment of regional members to develop regional projects. Key messages delivered by UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee, and UIC Director General Franรงois DAVENNE, also highlighted the global challenges and opportunities in rail transport, focusing on decarbonisation, digitalisation, and safety culture. โก๏ธ The project activities of APRA were presented by Philippe Lorand, Coordinator of the UIC Asia-Pacific region. ๐ The workshop on High-Speed Line Operation in the Asia-Pacific region tied in with the 20-year anniversary of high-speed lines in Korea. Key messages were delivered by Eungdae Lee, Deputy Director, International Cooperation Department, KORAIL Bertrand MINARY, UIC Passenger Director, Coordinator of the UIC Middle-East & Latin America regions.
