🚀 Exploring Innovation Archetypes: Finding Your Unique Path to Success 🚀 In the realm of innovation, understanding your company's unique model is crucial. As I delved into the diversity of innovation strategies with experts like Clark Gilbert and others, it became clear that there's no one-size-fits-all approach. 🔹 Innovation Archetypes: Top-Down Visionary: Think Apple. A central figure or small team sets the strategic direction, and the organization follows. It's about strong, central leadership driving the vision forward. Bottom-Up Innovation: Google exemplifies this approach where ideas are encouraged to bubble up from all levels of the organization, fostering a culture where innovation can come from anywhere. Outside-In: Companies like Meta (formerly Facebook) often look externally for innovations, acquiring promising startups and integrating their technologies. Systematic Innovation: Giants like Procter & Gamble and Philips have robust, structured processes to drive their innovation efforts, ensuring consistency and scalability. Cellular Approach: Amazon/Amazon Web Services (AWS) uses a cellular structure, where small, independent teams develop new ideas independently, akin to startups within the larger corporate structure. 🔍 Each model has its strengths and aligning your strategy with the right archetype can enhance effectiveness and accelerate innovation. “It is important for me to keep my hands in the leading edge of technology, I need to stay deep in development and R&D” “New systems as they enter the market, especially complex ones, are going to have reliability issues” “After these acquisitions, the soft challenges are the ones that drive the strong R&D types away, the knowledge transfer is what suffers for the acquiring company, and it is either not realized of under-valued post acquisition” -      Common statements from the emerging tech / startup engineers. There is not an easy answer. It requires addressing. The large strategics who’s strategy moving forward is acquisition heavy in areas where they have limited domain experience. The ones that put meaningful and initially uncomfortable solutions in place will have greater success than those who do not. The divergence for those that put legitimate programs in place that are architected by the startup types themselves, will break away. Perpetuating a workplace post-acquisition where the “startup” mindset can continue to play, learn, and experiment will drive critical retention of the one-percenter, R&D types for a longer knowledge transfer runway. It will be an interesting time ahead as we have more complex systems like surgical robotics, navigation, imaging, and algorithm driven / AI platforms.

The economy is transforming fast and economical lifecycles are shorten and more unpredictive. Innovation, #entrepreneurship, Collaboration and R&D are playing an impactful role in the way succesful organizations are moving into this new enviroment succesfuly.
