For some, there is a perception that if you're a good golfer, then you must have a Full Membership. Here, Matthew Smith (plus 2 handicap) explains why at this stage in his life, he isn't a full member and the importance of having a Flexible Membership at his local golf club has enabled him to still feel part of a club. #playmoregolf #flexiblemembership

How does golf improve your personal and professional life? I love golf for many reasons. It's not just because of the social side, the exercise, the fresh air, the mental health benefits. Over the past 4 years I've started to realise that golf a great source of insights and analogies on how to approach life in general. Examples listed below. Blog series pending. 😉 - Roadmaps and goal setting: short-term (next shot); intermediate(current hole); long-term (round). - Don't change too much at once. Make small, incremental improvements. - Work on maintaining change. We all have natural tendencies we revert back to. - Practice! This is not The Matrix. We can't all just 'know kung fu'! - Feedback: Use data; video your swing; get a lesson. - We make mistakes. Bad shots happen. It's about how we react and what we do next. - Imposter syndrome: Everyone else isn't the perfect golfer. They don't watch and judge you. They're too busy struggling with their own game. Laugh about it and work together to get better. - The list goes on... Cheadle Golf Club is friendly, relaxed, and promises to be in great condition for the coming summer months. Loads of facilities available for team building, meetings, functions, etc. See Cheadle Golf Club's About page for more details. And anyone who wants to join me for 9 holes, just let me know. We can play for 10p a hole. 😎🤑 #golf #improvement #lessonslearned
🔦 Member Spotlight: Paul Mellor 🔦 Our next golfing spotlight shines on one of the coolest kids in the club, Paul Mellor, our current Men’s Champion. Not many people are cool enough to wear a cap back to front, but Paul definitely is, along with Jürgen Klopp. Observing a strict shorts policy between April and October, we are treated to the sight of Paul’s legs for the entire golfing season, whatever the weather! Paul’s laid back, supportive playing style makes him an ideal partner but he is currently spoken for on (and off) the course, so form an orderly queue. Paul’s perfect day off work is to play 9 holes, then take lunch on the terrace with a good book – living the dream. Thank you Paul for taking part – wishing you a successful year at Cheadle Golf Club! #ClubChampion #HairyLegs #TooCoolForSchool 😎 England Golf

Ever wondered about the role of a caddy in a golf game? A caddy is your personal golf concierge, your walking golf encyclopedia, and your on-course coach. Think about it. You're playing at Pebble Beach for the first time, a stunning course that promises a unique experience. Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who knows the course like the back of their hand? Someone who can point out the best spots to hit, caution you about the not-so-great ones, and help read the grains like a pro? A golf game with a caddy feels entirely different, almost like a private tour of the course. So, next time you're planning a game, especially at a renowned course, consider getting a caddy. For Paddy Shea, it's a game-changer. Repost this if you've learned the benefits of using a caddy during your golf games from this video. #GolfCaddyExperience #CourseKnowledge #WalkingVsRiding

Read this quote from Dave Ramsey earlier today. “One of the largest, strongest horses in the world is the Belgian draft horse. Competitions are held to see which horse can pull the most and one Belgian can pull 8,000 pounds. The weird thing is if you put two Belgian horses in the harness who are strangers to each other, together they can pull 20,000 – 24,000 pounds. Two can pull not twice as much as one but three times as much as one. This example represents the power of synergy. However, if the two horses are raised and trained together they learn to pull and think as one. The trained, and therefore unified, pair can pull 30,000 – 32,000 pounds, almost four times as much as a single horse.” Business Conclusion - Working with a new company/partner can be successful, but working with a company/partner that you have longevity and loyalty to will always win in the end. #relationships #networking #2isbetterthan1 #networking #letsworktogether

Unique…. By definition in Websters dictionary is defined as; Adjective… Being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else. "this discovery was unique in history" Sweetens Cove Golf Club is called unique all the time but its not, what it is is a golf “ANOMALY”. Sweetens Cove Golf Club push’s the need in golf. Taking what was the normality in golf “tee times” and in 2020 introduced “passes”, limiting the number of people allowed to play daily giving them all passes (passes equal people) for the day. Specifically 60 passes Tuesdays-Thursday’s in season (Mondays out of season) and only 45 passes Fridays-Sundays. This has created an incredible and amazing experience to let golfers play as much as they want with the people they brought, 4somes, 6somes, 8somes whatever just come play golf with the people you brought. No dress code, no clubhouse, no frills, just golf with friends. It’s a club for everyone. A true for the people course. 2021 we released passes for the entirety of the year selling out everyday every pass in 14.5 minutes, this year the same but in 2.5 minutes… Not to bad for a little nine hole golf course in the middle of nowhere TN. 2024 is around the corner and we will be releasing our passes sometime between October 31st and November 5th. If you haven’t been you should. #thisaintnocountryclub #iykyk #yalljustgotnineholes #alldayplay #golfsbetterinbunches #kingcollinsgolf #shedsarebetterthenclubhouses #disruption

I posted a comment previously. This is one of those pictures with a lot in it. I have seen it a couple times since commenting. For the first time, I want to go to Musselburgh. I have seen the ancient pictures in the Darwin and Hutchinson books, where it always looked like a wide open field. I have Google Earthed it and pieced the layout together. The course's place in Golf's history is hard to beat; The Parks versus the Morrises, the fistfights at matches. And yet, somehow, I never thought the course would be much more than a relic; or worse, an amusement. Musselburgh is contained by a racetrack, so, by nature it's contrived. I had developed a belief that it was like the infield of any racetrack in North America. It never interested me from a golf course design perspective. My own passion for golf starts there. And now, looking at this photo - taken on a high res camera mounted on a drone - it's clear to me how immensely modern technology will impact the golf industry. Now, Musselburgh interests me as a golf course . . . immensely. Enough that I want to play it with hickories, not as some kitschy throwback activity. I want to play these holes (that, design-wise, I'm liking more and more every time I inspect the details) with something approximating the same weapons used by Parks and Morrises. I suspect I would find a moment or two of deeper understanding in that. A sudden thirst to jump back centuries. Made possible by a drone and a very creative photographer whose thirst was triggered first.
1672 was a long time ago… Back then some gentlemen got together and thought they would hit a small white bunch of feathers around an open piece of land with a stick made of hickory with the aim being to get the ball into a small hole often hundreds of metres away. Sounds fun right? Well that was the birth of the game that we all love (and hate at times) - GOLF. Visiting Scotland created in me a strong desire to go back to where it all began and that was at Musselburgh Links (@mocgc_links1672) on the outskirts of Scotland. This 9 hole course is widely regarded as the birthplace of golf. The course is still in operation and you can play a round with hickory sticks and gutta percha balls. Kind of fun really. The only think different about the place now is there is a functioning racetrack around the golf course. I captured these aerial images on a beautiful Scottish morning. Enjoy and let me know if you have been here to play. Musselburgh Links features in my new book Great Golf Courses of the World - https://lnkd.in/ggfyeb2w . Today is one of the busiest days of the golf season. A lot of 20+ handicap golfers will struggle on the course today. Here’s one thing single-digit handicappers will take to the course today that most 20+ handicappers won’t... A consistent pre-shot routine; force yourself into it for every shot, from tee to green – stress the importance. ---------- Bonus: here’s what my ~30 second pre-shot routine looks like. - Set the club behind the ball to understand the lie (< 5 seconds) - Take a step backward away from the ball, grip the club (< 5 seconds) - Make a slow half swing to feel the impact position I want (<5 seconds) - Make a slow full swing (<5 seconds) - Move behind the ball, pick my target in the distance (10 seconds) - Find a point about 2’ in front of the ball that puts me on my target (5 seconds) - Move to the ball, line up my clubface with my 2’ point (5 seconds) - Settle into my stance and let it rip (5-10 seconds)
