Last week I attended the RLCF Alliance Project Showcase Session at ILA Berlin During the event, RLCF launched the platform that gives Companies the opportunity to share our projects, in order to connect different actors in the value chain. In this context I had the opportunity to present #Ecoplanta project. Repsol has been developing the #Ecoplanta Molecular Recycling Solution project for several years, together with Enerkem as technological leader. Located in El Morell (Tarragona), it will be the first plant in Spain for non-recyclable municipal solid waste recovery into circular methanol that will be used to manufacture new circular materials and advanced biofuels. The plant, which is expected to start operations in 2028, will process around 400,000 tonnes/year of non-recyclable municipal solid waste per year, equivalent to the waste generated in a year by a population of 800,000 people, thus avoiding the use of virgin raw materials. Also, thanks to the plant we will achieve a reduction of 3.4 MtCO2eq of greenhouse gas emissions reductions over the first ten years of operation. The Ecoplanta project was awarded by the first Innovation Fund call, financed by EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) revenues and managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), due to its alignment with key objectives, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting innovative technologies, and prioritizing projects with high potential for large-scale implementation and widespread adoption. 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦 𝗔 𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗡 We are experiencing increasing demands from our customers to be able to document each product's life cycle analysis and CO2 footprint as well as other important aspects at BIRN, and therefore we are pleased to share our progress on several key initiatives, including: 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗢𝟮 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁: Despite increased production of cast iron, several of the Group's companies managed to reduce energy consumption in the past year, including natural gas and electricity consumption, and some companies have also begun the transition to renewable energy. 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗢𝟮 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁: Recycling and resource optimisation are part of our DNA. For example, 93 percent of the material used to produce cast iron at our foundry in Holstebro consists of recycled material. Ammann Group recently announced the first market-ready Hydrogen fueled burner for asphalt mix plants at their Green Days event held in Verona, Italy last October. Currently, the industrial use of hydrogen is restricted due to limited availability of green hydrogen produced through electrolysis using sustainable energy sources. However, I think it won't be long until it becomes as widely adopted as electric vehicles and electric heavy equipment. It is certainly a huge sustainability leap for the infrastructure industry.

Latest #CLEPADataDigest figures show a strong sustainability commitment as the auto industry adapts to green production. Despite increased production levels, automotive suppliers are finding new and innovative approaches to reduce their environmental footprint. It's exciting to see alternative fuel innovation, long in the making, finally receiving the recognition it deserves from the industry. This transformation highlights a significant and exciting transformation in the industry. For other sectors, like specialty chemicals where Lite-1 is focused, we're seeing industry movement. We believe that similar level of acceptance will be achieved in less than a decade. The journey of alternative fuel serves as a fantastic case study, showcasing how the world is moving towards sustainable and bio-based materials. Taking it one step further; we believe microorganisms are truly the factories of the future. Early steps are crucial across all sectors (government, industry, academia, private investment) for us to reach this stage, and accelerating the growth of clean solutions is key to transforming industries.
