More and more Upstream companies are taking control of how they manage contracts and volumes with their purchasers to ensure accuracy and ultimately that there is no lost revenue. Even 3-5% variance (which is average) adds up. Not to mention they can be proactive on any compliance, regulatory, and audit needs instead of being reactive when problems arise. A good reminder on vigilance and learning from past events The 2003 Northeast Blackout was a result of multiple missed barriers that initiated a series of cascading electricity outages across the Northeast and Canada. These barriers failed due to complacency, latent errors and neglect in multiple areas including a lack of effective grid monitoring tools, operator training (communications) and not trimming trees. A lot of learning and industry collaboration as well as the development of a common set of industry reliability standards, enforceable under the Law resulted from the blackout. Today should serve as a reminder to our industry to continue to be vigilant in understanding grid operations, design, monitoring, planning and system events (no matter how small). Learning from small events and making incremental improvements will help prevent recurrence, improve future responses and provide important lessons learned to our interconnected neighbors. A continued culture of improvement will inevitably avoid future BIG events by ensuring the right barriers are in place to preserve grid reliability.
Join nearly 300 (!!) participants who are eager to hear insights and lessons learned from our esteemed panelists on the 20th anniversary of the 2003 Northeast blackout: 🔹 Rich Dewey, NYISO 🔹 Bill Flynn, Harris Beach PLLC and former Chairman NYS Public Service Commission (2003-2006) 🔹 Joseph Kelliher, Former Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman 🔹 Moderator: Larry Gasteiger Register: https://lnkd.in/deuwtEr7 #gridofthefuture #gridreliability #gridsecurity #transmission #cleangrid #2003blackout
