"Empowering Communities: Time Over Money at KISS Cooperative" Over the weekend, I had the honor of joining the KISS Cooperative board at their annual retreat—a strategic gathering to chart the course for the upcoming year. Beforehand, I was asked by the president to lead a #workshop, guiding the team in creating personas and refining their target audiences. It was an incredible experience filled with enthusiasm and #collaboration. The cooperative believes in the power of community. KISS, an acronym for "Keep it small and simple," embodies the commitment to fostering genuine connections and support among neighbors. In the town where I live, KISS Cooperative was founded a few years ago to be one’s go-to for supported neighborhood assistance, where giving and receiving help is seamless, uncomplicated, and impactful. As contributing and receiving members, #volunteers receive a time record for their efforts, allowing them to reclaim, save, or even gift their hours when they need a helping hand. The mission is to provide timely and enduring support to people of all generations. Whether it's a one-time assistance or ongoing support, everyone is proudly operating under the Foundation KISS, as part of a network of around 20 regional cooperatives, collectively working towards making a positive impact in their #communities. In our workshop, we delved deep into the diverse KISS community, prioritizing target groups, creating #personas, and developing interview guides. We brought remarkable clarity to the profiles, setting the stage for crafting tailored communications in the next phase. For me it was a highly intensive, interesting, and stimulating afternoon, that concluded with a delightful dinner and in-depth discussions about the cooperative's future. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this insightful workshop and gain a profound understanding of KISS's impactful work. It's truly inspiring to witness the abundance of community support, and I'm proud to be part of this initiative. You know what's awesome? Habitat's Home Equals advocacy campaign is awesome. This campaign is about bringing together remarkable Habitat organizations dedicated to dismantling barriers to adequate housing in slums and informal settlements. It's about committing to long-term policy and advocacy work, with significant progress already visible within just a year. And, it's about leveraging our collective voice globally to underscore the critical role of adequate housing in human development—education, health, welfare, and economic growth. While celebrating these remarkable efforts across 44 countries, I'm collaborating with my international team to get Official Development Assistance, ODA, to pivot towards investing in housing in slums for resilience and sustainability. We estimate that, shockingly, less than 1% of ODA from G7 countries is directed towards housing, slum upgrading, or urban resilience. It's a huge missed opportunity. Don't mind me shouting from the rooftops about how excited I am to celebrate one year of our five year campaign... Still so much to do, and I can't wait to see how far we can go.

Collaboration. That’s Dove House’s theme for 2024. Here’s why: Last quarter alone, Dove House served 79 women between our two locations in Marion County and Dubois County, with 70% of clients successfully discharged. Of those who were discharged, nearly 20% moved on to our Steps to Success Program, where Dove House provides rent assistance for housing while they continue to receive case management and recovery support from our team. Staying connected is so valuable for long-term success—and that’s exactly what our Doves are doing! The results speak for themselves: financial stability, reunification with children, safe and affordable housing, and genuine self-sufficiency. Community support and partnerships are essential to achieving these incredible outcomes. It’s no wonder our CEO lights up when she talks about Dove House. I am so enormously proud of the Your Own Place CIC team for being shortlisted for the #AffordableHousing awards Homelessness Project of the year. I genuinely query how many organisations without state funding and of just ten people have made it onto the shortlist in Manchester this Friday 🤔 Inside Housing? But much more importantly and interestingly, (to me 😂) is why and how. 💡 Because ours is a Targeted Prevention Pre-tenancy service - supporting people without the safety nets that many of us take for granted 💡 Because the team are deeply invested in our impact, building and reviewing impact through the project and able to make changes when things aren’t working 💡 Because of the work the team have invested to embed restorative, coaching, asset-based approaches that are also fun, visual, inclusive and engaging. Whether it’s Money, Housing, Tenancy or self-care we’re covering, the team build workshops that ask questions, explore people’s strengths and leave trainees feeling more skilled, knowledgeable as well as confident to get help and prevent crises - and avoid homelessness. On Wednesday, February 7th, the Red Oak DEI Action Committee hosted a special screening of the documentary, A Rising Tide. The film reveals, through the eyes of children and their families, the survival strategies they are forced to endure while struggling with homelessness in Alameda County. The film also shares the work and the challenges faced by local service providers, shedding light on the “helping industry” that has developed from the housing crisis here in the East Bay.
