My name is Joe Gaffney and I am currently seeking employment in WA as a process engineer.
I spent 6 years working in the cement manufacturing industry with Irish Cement Limited (CRH). During my time I took on numerous roles, such as area process engineer across the entire plant, deputy environmental manager and deputy process manager amongst others, dedicating and focusing my time on process stability and quality control. I hold a multitude of skills that are transferrable to any engineering role, and I am determined to succeed in any role given to me to further enhance my skills and knowledge.
My focus as a chemical process engineer is operational excellence, zoning in on process stability & optimisation and quality control while also ensuring KPI targets are met and exceeded. I safely managed and operated a 4500TPD kiln and achieved record production volumes of clinker in 2019 whilst maintaining our quality targets and fossil fuel replacement targets. I carried this out by methodically and routinely monitoring and analysing the pyro-system process and chemical data to see where operational improvements could be made and implemented on a consistent basis across all shift teams and departments. This was far from a sole effort and involved engaging with a variety of team members across multiple disciplines and monitoring all aspects of the process from quarried raw materials, kiln feed, fuel analysis and operational control patterns. The team effort resulted in an 8% increase in production volumes for the year ending 2019, with 54% fossil fuel replacement.
H&S was at the forefront of all my roles and as a result of this I have an in-depth knowledge of risk assessments & method statements, job hazard analysis, toolbox talks and take 5s. I was heavily involved in composing, implementing, auditing and maintaining LOTOC procedures across all aspects of the plant. I also developed a RAMS registry in conjunction with our H&S team.
Having proven myself in multiple roles and team projects, I was appointed project manager/team lead on our annual shutdown. This involved developing the project scope, project plan, procuring both materials & contractors and executing the project in a 4-week period of high pressure and intensity. I was the point of contact for multiple disciplinary teams and directly responsible for works for over 150 people totalling > 20,000hrs. We successfully managed to complete all aspects of the scope on schedule and with no LTIs. This was achieved through thorough and methodical planning and communication across all teams, daily progress updates, clear organisation of materials and labour and H&S controls such as auditing & toolbox talks.
I believe I have the skills and traits which would allow me to integrate into your teams and bring value to your work.
Thank you for taking the time to reads this and I hope to hear about potential opportunities.
Kind regards,
Joe Gaffney.
