PIMCO’s Global Month of Volunteering (GMV) recurs each July with many opportunities across our offices to support local nonprofits and communities worldwide. While GMV allows us to collectively make a more meaningful impact, our continuous efforts are of steadfast importance to our work, teams and clients. A prime example of PIMCO’s community-minded culture is Managing Director John Kirkowski, who brings his private sector expertise and strong belief in aiding social progress to his philanthropic endeavors, especially in his role as an OneOC Board Member. John and OneOC’s partnership is rooted in a common goal – to provide the solutions and support that empower nonprofits and companies in their charitable services. With John’s lead, PIMCO colleagues have been able to demonstrate #SharedBonds through various volunteer initiatives, like the OneOC Community Cup and PIMCO Beach Cleanup events. As we launch #GMV2024, we celebrate leaders like John, who abundantly gives his time and resources to an organization advancing other nonprofits and empowers volunteers to share their time and talent with our communities.

To celebrate Pride and this year’s theme, “Facing the Past, Changing the Future,” PIMCO Pride organized activities to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ identity, experiences, history, allyship, and advocacy. We kicked off the month with a keynote event exploring the PRIDE community's historical challenges, the role of intersectional support in civil rights progress, and our influence on current change. Sonya Passi, Founder of @FreeFrom , a PIMCO Foundation Gender Equality grantee, joined us mid-month for an impactful session sharing how the organization is working toward economic empowerment at the intersection of racial, gender, and sexual orientation. Throughout the month, we learned about important people in LGBTQ+ history, and we closed this year’s events with office gatherings and snacks from LGBTQ+ owned small businesses. It was an exceptional month of raising awareness and celebrating! #PrideMonth

A celebratory two-day virtual summit was recently held in honor of this year’s talented cohort of The PIMCO Foundation Future Leader Scholarship (FLS) recipients. FLS is designed for students from underrepresented communities who have an interest in investment management and wish to pursue a career in finance by way of continued education. Some of our talented PIMCO colleagues recently participated in the Pro Bono Social Impact Challenge alongside employees from Techsoup, Cargill and Google. In partnership with the The Global FoodBanking Network, each team set out to develop innovative solutions for food recovery and distribution to feed more people and reduce waste.
