A newly launched cargo rail service connecting Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and China is expected to open new markets in the region and lower costs for local businesses and people. The first ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Express departed a Kelana Jaya inland depot in Malaysia’s Selangor state on Jun 27 in the presence of representatives from the four countries. It arrived at its destination in Chongqing, China on Thursday (Jul 11) with its cargo of electronic appliances and agricultural products. Another train going the opposite way from Chongqing arrived in Selangor this week as well. 📰📰 Loke: High development potential for railway land in six states 🚝🚄🚅🚈 KUALA LUMPUR: The government, through Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) has provided 10 railway land locations in six states with significant potential for development for various projects, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. Loke said that the parcels of land totaling 369.45 acres (149.51 hectares) are spread over Penang, Johor, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, and Kelantan. Five of these land parcels have train access and might be developed using the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept, he said. "These RAC land needs to be developed with value added so that the corporation can enjoy maximum returns, which can then be used for the development of the national railway sector. "I welcome the big developers to pay attention to this opportunity because it is our new approach to making the transport sector a catalyst for the country's economic development," Loke said at the opening ceremony of the RAC Property Showcase 2023 yesterday. Meanwhile, the Segambut 2 Railway Station, near United Point Residence, would be a driver for growth in the area, transforming Segambut into a high-density district, according to a joint statement made by RAC and IDP Industrial Growth Sdn Bhd. The RAC and IDP also believe that the station's development, which is scheduled to be completed in November 2025, will reduce traffic congestion and boost property ownership among individuals who want to live or work near the city centre. The new railway station project is being developed by IDP, while the land for the project is provided by RAC, a government corporation. Our country's pivot with U.S.A. and Japan benefitted so much that new investments coming into Philippines🇵🇭 from the recent goodwill visit of our Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr., during the trilateral Summit in Washington, D.C., last April 11, 2024 surged to 90% over the period of 8 months from September 2023 to April 2024. The Philippines🇵🇭, will be the economic beneficiary of U.S.A. and Japan's planned acceleration of investments in the country both through their own public and private sectors and also through the G7’s (PGII) Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment initiative. The investment initiative is US$100billion spread over a period of 5-years. This investment will be concentrated in the Luzon Economic Corridor spanning four (4) areas with two (2) located in the North of Luzon, Zambales and Pampanga plus one in the South of Luzon, Batangas. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. recently inaugurated the new and expanded Batangas Seaport Passenger Terminal Bldg with annual capacity of 12.8 million. Batangas City's natural deep-water port is envisioned as an alternative International Passenger Seaport and Container Terminal to Manila and Cebu International Seaport. Another deep-water seaport is Subic Bay International Seaport inside the SBMA Freeport Zone. Interestingly enough, it will be connected to a dedicated freight train line to the Clark International Airport and Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
