Good morning! What an amazing #SuperBowl last night and I have to tell you, as I watched the game I was so aware that it was a battle. Two really good teams that were battling, giving it all they had, and it was great to watch. But after the game was over, I immediately thought how both teams needs the same thing……..the valley. You see, both teams had made it to the mountain top to battle and while one team won, the Kansas City Chiefs, they both need the valley….. 1. At the top of the mountain, one cannot survive forever. There is not enough food, water, etc., to survive. 2. It is lonely if you just stay at the top. 3. The valley has what the teams need. It has fresh water, food, nourishment, peace, fresh air. Mr./Mrs. Leader, which team are you running today? Either type of team eventually needs the valley. 1. How will you applaud their acheivements, win or lose, while at the top of the mountain? 2. How will you lead them down the mountain? 3. How will you nurture them while in the valley so they can make their next climb to the top? You can do this, you have what it takes. As football season gains momentum, I can't help but draw parallels between two of my passions: football and recruiting. Just like a good draft pick in football, landing the right talent in business can be a game-changer. Having ties to both Colorado State and Texas A&M, I've always been captivated by the strategy behind each play, mirroring the meticulous planning in recruitment. The fervor in those stadiums? It’s akin to the excitement of securing top talent for a crucial project. In both football and recruiting, teamwork, strategy, and persistence are paramount. Just as coaches and players study tapes and refine their skills, we in the recruitment field continuously improve our strategies to land that next MVP. As the season unfolds, let's remember that whether it's on the field or in the office, it's all about spotting potential, harnessing talent, and teamwork. I used to feel like very few really understood what I did. My wife used to joke that I’m like Chandler from Friends: “a transponster”... you know, because no one really knows what Chandler does 🤣. Many executives want to "do partnerships," but few know how to do them right. Building something doesn't mean that they “will come.” Many that "don't get partnerships" try to copy what the big players do and find quite fast that that strategy just doesn't work. Working in a partnership role can sometimes make you feel isolated and misunderstood. The irony of this doesn't escape me, as partnership professionals are supposed to be collaborating and building relationships inside and outside the organization, right? This is why Partnership Leaders (PL) is so special. PL has helped me, and many others, find those people that speak the language of partnerships and can relate to what many of us go through day in and day out. What Asher, Chris, Tai, and their team have built is incredible. At least for me, PL has opened a whole new world. PL has helped me find my tribe. So, a 🙌 BIG Thank You 🙌 to them and to all the PL team, behind the scenes, that works tirelessly to make this a fantastic community! Early in my career I was looking for the answer by trying to find someone to follow, until I realized I needed to become someone that I would have followed. When people decide to work with me or partner with me … I always give them lots of opportunities to back out (as well as give them the reasons why they might not want to work with me). I don’t want people to be sold into working with me … I want to those that self select for the right journey.
