Sporting Politics About To Claim Yet Another Young Athlete. Twenty year old US Track and Field sensation Erriyon Knighton has become a pawn in the civil war that is currently raging between the head of the United States Anti Doping Agency (#USADA) and #WADA (World Anti Doping Agency). Knighton tested positive for a banned substance back in April 2024, and was provisionally suspended. But first the back story. You will all remember the fall of #LanceArmstrong, the infamous professional cyclist who was brought to his knees, even confusing to Oprah Winfrey that he had taken performance enhancing drugs along with nearly every other professional cyclist at the time. Well the man behind that Armstrong case was the current CEO of the United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) Mr Travis Tygart. Tygart has, over recent times, been very outspoken about the performance of the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) in light of the recent case of 23 Chinese swimmers who were confirmed to have taken some prohibited substances, and who were not sanctioned by the National Chinese Anti Doping Agency. Tygart demanded that WADA do a public enquiry on the Chinese case. Today China announced that nine of those swimmers will be competing in the #ParisOlympic Games. Then in April of 2024, 20 year old Erriyon Knighton (in picture) tested positive for a banned substance called Trenbolone. Trenbolone is well known among athletes as a way to aid muscle growth. After a so called independent review it was deemed that this substance had founds its way into Knightons system by means of ingesting contaminated meat. USADA's Travis Tygart then moved quickly and announced this week that Knighton was cleared of any wrong doing, and that he can compete in the USA Olympic Trials starting tomorrow, Friday June 21st, in Eugene, Oregon. In the past few hours WADA has released a press statement saying that they are now reviewing this case because they believe that there is no way that Trenbolone could get into Knightons system via meat contamination. If the WADA review is substantiated then they will take the case to the Court of Arbitration in Sport and seek a ban for Knighton. Now being a strong advocate for clean sport I am not wanting any potential cheat to get off scott free. However, what this political battle between USADA and WADA now does is throw this young mans reputation, mental health, and career / life into chaos. This for me is where the entire Anti Doping process gets it very wrong. This young man deserves a fair process. He doesn't deserve to be embroiled in , and to be a pawn in the civil war between these two parties. Why can't this be done in private, until there is a definitive outcome that all parties can then announce accordingly. Erriyon Knighton got fourth in the 200m final at the Tokyo Olympics as a 17 year old. Here is a few years later now facing his biggest life challenge yet, and its not on the track. We must do better.

Chinese Swimmers in Doping Controversy: A Closer Look at the Tokyo Fallout China has confirmed its selection of eleven swimmers implicated in a recent doping scandal to compete in the upcoming Paris Olympics. This decision has stirred significant debate and skepticism within the international sporting community, especially in light of the circumstances surrounding the athletes' alleged violations. The scandal dates back to the lead-up to the 2021 Tokyo Games when twenty-three Chinese swimmers reportedly tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ), a banned substance known for its potential performance-enhancing effects. TMZ, primarily used to treat angina, was found in the systems of these athletes during routine testing protocols, triggering immediate scrutiny and concerns over fair play. Despite the alarming test results, Chinese authorities vehemently argued that the positive findings were the result of inadvertent ingestion through contaminated food sources. This defense was eventually accepted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), sparing the athletes from formal sanctions. This decision, however, sparked widespread skepticism and criticism, with many questioning the adequacy of the investigation and the credibility of the exp... #ChineseSwimmers #DopingScandal #Tokyo

She Won The Vienna Marathon This Year BUT....... Nazret Weldu Gebrehiwet from Eritrea was the first female across the line in the 2024 Vienna City Marathon this year, but she has been suspended this week for failing to be available for anti doping tests on three separate occasions. So, is there anything fishy going on here, and why has this athlete from Eritrea been taken out of competition? The whereabouts program is a very self explanatory process set out by WADA the World Anti Doping Agency. Professional athletes need to inform the anti doping agency of their whereabouts by completing an online calendar giving WADA a physical address where, if chosen the agency can send their testers to take a anti doping sample from the athlete. One of the rules governing this process is, that an athlete can miss three of these tests by not being at the location they said they would be at, after that, a suspension is imposed as it is deemed three attempts is more than sufficient for an athlete to make themselves available. Chances are very high that if an athlete is constantly avoiding an anti doping test by not being at the address they stated they would be at that something fishy is going on. Why would an athlete who is not cheating have any problem in being available to take a anti doping test, let alone fail to show for three tests. While this incident is not verifiably confirming that Nazret Weldu is doping, it does raise a red flag that she well may be up to something untoward. 37 days until the start of the Paris Olympic Games and we are hoping that more and more of these cheats are being caught. #saynotodrugsinsport

And Todays Naughty Athlete is - Abderrahim Ougra SPAIN The Athletes Integrity Unit has provisionally suspended Abderrahim Ougra for Evading, Refusing or Failing to submit to Sample Collection. I wonder why? The 3000m runner obviously has something to hide and because this case is still under investigation I can not at this point in time that he has been banned for using performance enhancing drugs. If any athlete has nothing to hide then surely they are not going to do all that they can to evade, or refuse a drugs test. This case continues to show the amount of work that an organization like the Athletes Integrity Unit has to do to catch the cheats. Not every athlete makes life easy for the controllers, and in this case the runner has done his best to evade everyone. I will continue to monitor this case and report the final outcome. With just 56 days to go until the Paris Olympic Games commence over 570 athletes from the sport of Track and Field alone are currently suspended for doping related incidents. #saynotodrugsinsports

Here is an example of a fairly typical U.S. information operation – this one against China. On April 20 the New York Times, in collaboration with some German media, came up with this sensational headline: Top Chinese Swimmers Tested Positive for Banned Drug, Then Won Olympic Gold – New York Times China’s own doping agency had detected tiny amounts of a banned drugs in some athletes of its swimming team. It informed, as it should do, the World Anti Doping Agency WADA and started to investigate the case: China acknowledged the positive tests in a report by its antidoping regulator, saying that the swimmers had ingested the banned substance unwittingly and in tiny amounts, and that no action against them was warranted. But an examination by The New York Times found that the previously unreported episode sharply divided the antidoping world, where China’s record has long been a flashpoint. American officials and other experts said the swimmers should have been suspended or publicly identified pending further investigation, and they suggested that the failure to do so rested with Chinese sports officials; swimming’s international governing body, World Aquatics; and the World Anti-Doping Agency, the global authority that oversees national drug-testing programs. … Even after other national and international antidoping officials repeatedly provided the global regulator, known as WADA, with intelligence suggesting a cover-up and doping by Chinese swimmers, the agency chose not to try to hold the athletes accountable, asserting “a lack of any credible evidence” to challenge China’s version of events. WADA defended its decision not to take action, calling the criticism unsubstantiated. The Chinese anti-doping agency as well as WADA handled the case by the book. There was a plausible explanation of a food contamination with tiny amounts of the drug during a swimming event in China. No other test before and after that event had been positive. The amount of drugs involved was too tiny to make a difference. WADA did not put out a public notice about the incident as no further action was required. No athletes were publicly named and shamed as none had been proven to be guilty. https://lnkd.in/ep7fXmRa

This decision, however, sparked widespread skepticism and criticism, with many questioning the adequacy of the investigation and the credibility of the explanation provided. The acceptance of the food contamination argument by WADA marked a significant departure from standard anti-doping protocols, which typically hold athletes accountable for any banned substances found in their system regardless of the source. The decision has raised eyebrows regarding the consistency and rigor of anti-doping enforcement, particularly when powerful sporting nations are involved. Now, as China prepares to send these eleven swimmers to the Paris Olympics, the controversy has reignited discussions about the integrity of international sports and the effectiveness of anti-doping measures. Critics argue that the decision sets a troubling precedent, potentially undermining efforts to maintain a level playing field for all athletes. In response to the skepticism surrounding their selection, Chinese sports officials have reiterated their commitment to clean competition and emphasized that all athletes named in the squad have undergone rigorous testing to ensure compliance with anti-doping regulations. They maintain that the athletes are innocent of any deliberate wrongdoing and deserve the opportunity to compete on the global stage. The unfolding saga serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by the anti-doping authorities in safeguarding the integrity of sport. As the Paris Olympics approach, the spotlight will undoubtedly remain on these athletes and the broader implications of their participation, reflecting larger debates on fairness, transparency, and accountability in international athletics. As stakeholders and fans alike await the commencement of the Games, the controversy surrounding the Chinese swimmers stands as a testament to the
