✋ 🔻🥊 Ryan Garcia's B-sample comes back positive for banned substance as legal team denies intentional use Ryan Garcia shocked the boxing world on April 20 when he dropped Devin Haney three times en route to a majority decision victory. There was already an asterisk next to that victory after Garcia badly missed weight ahead of the bout, but things have continued to get worse for him after a second positive drug test. On Thursday, the lab results for Garcia's B-sample came back with an adverse finding for the banned substance ostarine, according to multiple reports. This comes after Garcia reportedly failed a VADA drug test administered ahead of the fight. VADA tested Garcia the day before and the day after the Haney fight. 🎾 Back on the Padel court at lunch today to feed the addiction... Anyone else picked up the bug yet? 🔌 Shameless plug - I have found that being more self aware around how I cope under pressure definitely helps with sports. Knowing how and why you react to negatives (and positives) can unlock the tools to manage and adapt behaviour to your benefit - whether its on the Padel court or at your desk. #padeltennis #selfawareness #assessments

I commented lasted summer when Pogba received his provisional suspension that, given the low number of ADRVs in football, there would be much interest in his B sample. Pogba has now received a 4 year ban having tested positive for the prohibited substance testosterone. A 4-year ban is standard under the World Anti-Doping Code, but can be reduced in cases where athletes demonstrate their doping was not intentional, that the positive test was a result of contamination, or if they provide 'substantial assistance' to help investigators. Pogba reportedly declined the plea-bargain offered to him. Whilst the ban is being backdated to the date of his failed test, it will nonetheless likely spell the end of Pogba's professional career (if injury hadn't already sounded the death knell on that). High-profile examples of doping in football are comparatively rare for a sport with such reach. Most could point to the cases of Maradonna or Kolo Touré, but football outwardly and curiously seems to have a less complicated relationship with doping than sports like boxing or cycling. That said, the issue now seems to be emerging in public discourse. Gary Neville and Roy Keane very recently made oblique albeit public references to some of their opponents doping: "I remember it. I would be looking at the players I played against, a couple of the Italian teams, and they looked like they’d not even played a match.” It certainly begs the question whether there is a much bigger doping problem lurking beneath the surface in football. #sportslaw https://lnkd.in/ecJx3ji5

❗️ THE TAS/CAS Tribunal Arbitral du Sport / Court of Arbitration for Sport / Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte UPHOLDS THE APPEAL FILED BY SIMONA HALEP AND REDUCES HER PERIOD OF INELIGIBILITY FROM 4 YEARS TO 9 MONTHS 💉 Simona Halep, the Romanian tennis star, was banned from competing after a prohibited substance (Roxadustat) was found to be present in a sample collected from her on 29 August 2022 during the US Open. She contested that it was the result of contamination. Additionally, she was charged based on her Athelte Biological Passport as a result of a blood sample taken on 22 September 2022 that allegedly demonstrated use of a prohibited substance/method. 👩⚖️ The CAS Panel has unanimously determined that the four-year period of ineligibility imposed by the International Tennis Federation Independent Tribunal is to be reduced to a period of ineligibility of nine months starting on 7 October 2022, which period expired on 6 July 2023. 📝 Specifically, the Panel determined that whilst Ms Halep did not exercise utmost caution as to the contamination, she bore no significant fault or negligence. As to the ABP charge, it could not be proved to comfortable satisfaction. 🎾 Simona Halep, having served the 9 month suspension already, will be able to compete once again. #SportiaLaw #WeComeIntoPlay #CAS #AntiDoping #Tennis #ADRV #Arbitration #SportsLaw #ITF #SportsResolutions https://lnkd.in/eJhZEUGN
