And Todays Naughty Athlete is - Abderrahim Ougra SPAIN The Athletes Integrity Unit has provisionally suspended Abderrahim Ougra for Evading, Refusing or Failing to submit to Sample Collection. I wonder why? The 3000m runner obviously has something to hide and because this case is still under investigation I can not at this point in time that he has been banned for using performance enhancing drugs. If any athlete has nothing to hide then surely they are not going to do all that they can to evade, or refuse a drugs test. This case continues to show the amount of work that an organization like the Athletes Integrity Unit has to do to catch the cheats. Not every athlete makes life easy for the controllers, and in this case the runner has done his best to evade everyone. I will continue to monitor this case and report the final outcome. With just 56 days to go until the Paris Olympic Games commence over 570 athletes from the sport of Track and Field alone are currently suspended for doping related incidents. #saynotodrugsinsports

Following on from my previous posts this week tackling the big issues of racing drivers trying to overturn championship results 15 years ago and mistaken offsides, it is time for some doping. The Times reported a week ago that the Delhi State Athletics Championships descended into farce after the arrival of drug testers led to only one athlete actually competing in the 100m final (and a drug tester reportedly chasing a runner after the race ended). There is a comical element to this story (and the Times article may not be a fair reflection of events). However, as the rewards from professional sport gets ever greater, some athletes are going to dope to try and succeed to get a share of those rewards. To state the absurdly obvious, doping is not going to go away. Sponsors, broadcasters and other commercial partners of sporting events do and will not want their brands associated with doping. If (with all due respect to the Delhi State Athletics Championships) more marquee sporting events descend into farce and ignominy because of doping, a lot of satellite litigation may break out alongside it. https://lnkd.in/d3YAUEuq

What You Should Know About Track And Field At The Paris Olympics In 2024. We are just forty nine days away from what we are lead to believe is the greatest sporting event in the world. The 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France, and in this years edition there will be many things broadcast into your living rooms that will distract you. Take for instance the purple running track. Yes, for the first time in history of the Olympic Games the 400m circular track will be the color purple, some will love it, some will hate it, and others will be undecided. For me what is far more important than the color of the track is what's happening on it, and around it. I am talking of course about the athletes, their events, and whether or not we can actually believe what we are watching is fair and honest competition. So I want you to know, and to consider this. The Athletes Integrity Unit (AIU) who will be responsible for the anti doping controls and testing for the Track and Field events at the Games in Paris. In the "testing pool" there are currently 839 elite athletes registered. Problem is, there will be 48 Track and Field events at the Games, with a total of 1'810 athletes competing. Meaning only 48% of the athletes are in the testing pool for anti doping controls. See any problems here? Why every single athlete competing at the Olympic Games is not subjected to anti doping testing will be argued of course to be down to the lack of funding, lack of resources, and the famous logistics issues. Surely if we are so focused on the color of a running track, should we not be more focused about making sure that the worlds premiere sporting event is free of drug cheats? Here's the kicker. That purple running track cost between $2-3 million Euros to lay in the Stade de France stadium. The annual budget last year of the Athletics Integrity Unit, the very organization that is working to catch the doping cheats, and to keep this beautiful sport clean and fair, was just $3m Euro. Let's keep pushing for a sporting world where drug cheats are not taking medals, prize money and life long dreams away from clean athletes. #saynotodrugsinsport

Olympic Swimmer Michael Brinegar Faces Four-Year Ban for Blood Doping | Sports-Games American swimmer Michael Brinegar has been handed a four-year suspension by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for alleged blood doping. Despite an independent arbitrator initially clearing him, the Court of Arbitration for Sport sided with USADA on appeal, effectively ruling him out of future competitions. She Won The Vienna Marathon This Year BUT....... Nazret Weldu Gebrehiwet from Eritrea was the first female across the line in the 2024 Vienna City Marathon this year, but she has been suspended this week for failing to be available for anti doping tests on three separate occasions. So, is there anything fishy going on here, and why has this athlete from Eritrea been taken out of competition? The whereabouts program is a very self explanatory process set out by WADA the World Anti Doping Agency. Professional athletes need to inform the anti doping agency of their whereabouts by completing an online calendar giving WADA a physical address where, if chosen the agency can send their testers to take a anti doping sample from the athlete. One of the rules governing this process is, that an athlete can miss three of these tests by not being at the location they said they would be at, after that, a suspension is imposed as it is deemed three attempts is more than sufficient for an athlete to make themselves available. Chances are very high that if an athlete is constantly avoiding an anti doping test by not being at the address they stated they would be at that something fishy is going on. Why would an athlete who is not cheating have any problem in being available to take a anti doping test, let alone fail to show for three tests. While this incident is not verifiably confirming that Nazret Weldu is doping, it does raise a red flag that she well may be up to something untoward. 37 days until the start of the Paris Olympic Games and we are hoping that more and more of these cheats are being caught. #saynotodrugsinsport
