1 in 3 children leave primary school unable to swim. Part of the reason, pools like this one are closing. We need pools to stay open so that children can learn this vital, life-saving skill. So, what’s the solution? If you hire out your pool to a swim school - which can run using just one lane – your members or regular swimmers will face minimal disruption, and children can become safer in the process. Swimming is one of the most important lessons a child can learn, and accidents around open water can easily be reduced by allowing us to teach your children to swim. The cost of running pools is increasing, so why can’t we help each other? We can help contribute to the costs of heating, lighting etc while you allow us to teach children one of the most valuable life skills they can learn. It’s win-win, right?

Please join the Nu Beta Sigma Alumnae chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and the Swim Strong Foundation our Annual Swim 1922 Water Safety Clinic on Saturday, May 18th, 2024. We will have a wet clinic for participants ages 8 to adults on the importance of water safety skills. We will provide CPR training that will lead to receiving a certification. We will also give a way summer swim lesson scholarships. SWIM 1922, in partnership with USA Swimming, is one of SGRho’s national programs and is targeted at reducing the drowning rates of African American and Hispanic children. One way our sorority and chapter have leaned in to support this effort is by hosting swim clinics to teach youth about water safety. In turn, it is our hope that this engagement and exposure will reduce the number of African American and Hispanic youth’s fear of water and increase their knowledge and participation in swimming. Did you know? According to the CDC, approximately 10 people drown every day in the U.S.A. An even more startling fact is that 70 percent of African American children and 60 percent of Hispanic children in the U.S. do not know how to swim. https://lnkd.in/gEVtaKRr

On average, swim schools see a 30% drop in enrollment during the months of October - February. Ironically, this is the exact time parents should be enrolling their children in swim lessons, as it can take 3-6mos to learn to basic survival skills in the water. Children taking lessons in the winter also benefit from smaller class sizes and less instructor turnover.
