Years ago, I lived on the east side of Mt. Tamalpais in Mill Valley, California, and some raccoons kept getting into the trash. One day, my roommate got tired of it and came up with a plan to stop them
He took 3 bungee cords and tightly secured them across the top of the lid. We saw the raccoons circling the can, obviously preparing to accept their defeat and move on. What we saw next shocked us...
One raccoon climbed to the top of the garbage can and grasped the edge of the lid with its claws. The other two got on opposite sides at the bottom of the can and proceeded to rock the can back and forth.
Soon, they had built up enough momentum that the can was about to tip, and as it began to fall, the raccoon on the top of it repositioned itself so that its claws were latched on the side of the lid away from where it would strike the ground. As soon as it hit the raccoon used the momentum to pull the lid off, and they all climbed inside and looked for their dinner.
My roommate and I impressed, looked at each other, and at the same time said, "They earned it!" We let the raccoons eat to their heart's content, then cleaned up the mess in the morning.
I would have offered the raccoons some beers to go with it, but I heard that they don't like Moretti... 🤣🤣🤣
Business requires creative solutions, and often for problems that we never foresaw. And raccoons are some of the more creative, and resourceful animals that you'll ever see. What raccoon stories have you seen in your life or business?
