From Peter Thiel:
“Monopolies lie to protect themselves. They know that bragging about their great monopoly invites being targeted by regulators. So, they pretend to be part of a larger market. They exaggerate the power of their (nonexistent) competition, and so when you hear companies talking about how much competition they have, it’s often a tell that they’re a monopoly.”
The CTO of OpenAI has said the models they have in their labs are not much further ahead of those publicly available. In other words ChatGPT5 (if and when it gets released) sounds unlikely to be much better than what's already available.
More evidence we're reaching a saturation point with what GenAI models can deliver.
I'm not a GenAI cynic, I use ChatGPT every day, but it's at best an unreliable narrator and fails with anything mildly complex.
The hope (hype) around it all is it will get a lot better and be able to overcome the current limitations.
However it's looking less and less likely this is gonna happen anytime soon.
If you understand how GPT models work you'll know why - they're fundamentally predictive models (so will always get things wrong) with no actual intelligence or ability to know whether their output is reliable.
Which means they can't be used to automate anything business critical, and the idea they can replace huge swathes of the job market are currently overblown.
Throwing more and more compute at the problem (which is largely what's got us here today) can't solve this.
The next big leap will require completely new approaches, and no one is in a position to predict when that might happen.
nathan is one of the best engineers I've had the pleasure of working with. it's uncommon to meet someone with such a strong mix of technical ability, passion, and curiosity. we're so excited to have him onboard as our founding engineer and can't wait to release to the world all the crazy things we're going to build together 🚀
stoked to announce I'm joining Sweetspot (YC S23) next week! they're a cracked team with a cracked product -- we're gonna solve all things government contracting with an A1 product and A1 AI.
moving to NJ, so any of my TX friends, hit me up before I move next month!
We have a Day 0 integration with the newest GPT-4o model! It's available within our Ask AI and proposal writer products.
The model is extremely fast (> 200 tokens / second) with minimal time to first token latency. The reasoning is also very strong, with a Chatbot Arena ELO score of 1310 compared to 1253 of the most recent gpt-4-turbo model. For context, that's a similar jump in ELO score from Claude Sonnet to Claude Opus.
Turn on notifications for some cool demo videos and try it out for yourself on our platform.
Super excited for people to try out our integration with Groq. We can now run Llama-3-70B, a near GPT-4 class model, at 300 tokens per second. For context, that is 150x faster than the average human. With this speed, making edits and answering questions is instantaneous, making the proposal writing process nearly realtime. I'll post a demo video soon highlighting the features.
We’ve just released 3 new features on Sweetspot (YC S23)!
1️⃣ Pipelines & Capture Assistant: Easily triage all the opportunities you’d like to pursue and make an educated bid/no-bid decision in minutes by leveraging our Capture Assistant. Our Capture Assistant estimates your probability of winning an opportunity (PWin), and Sweetspot AI then uses this capture data to fine tune your Proposal Copilot responses.
2️⃣ Latest News: Stay in the know by reading up on the latest news for each opportunity you're interested in.
3️⃣ Model Switching: Sweetspot AI now has the ability to switch between different large language models, allowing you to guide the AI to prioritize speed or intelligence for opportunity chat and proposal copilot.
