Huge news! The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced its selection of groups to administer $20B in funding for climate solutions through the Inflation Reduction Act, much of which will be directed toward low-income and disadvantaged communities. Congratulations to our grantee partners who, individually and as part of coalitions, were awarded a total of nearly $8B:  African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs, National Bankers Association, Inclusiv, Clean Energy Fund of Texas, Inc, NC Clean Energy Fund, Finance New Orleans, Freedmen Green Bank & Trust Through early grant funding over the past several years, the Hive Fund has helped seed and grow equitable green lending and other finance organizations that serve communities of color and low-income communities across the region, and supported them as they prepared for this opportunity. These groups have been organizing, training, and planning and are ready to finance projects that provide tangible benefits, from renewable energy and energy efficiency upgrades that lower energy bills and build community wealth, to home weatherization and solar and battery infrastructure that make communities more resilient. As these complex programs roll out, we will continue to support the awardees in working together to weave a tapestry of collaboration that centers Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities that have historically been afterthoughts. https://lnkd.in/e7MtgAFt

For those that haven't been tracking this news, the EPA announced awards for $20B (yes B) for clean energy investments across the country. This funding is 1) targeted at low income and BIPOC communities and 2) focused on leveraging 2-5-10x private investment. This is historic...and also a drop in the bucket of what is needed and due. I encourage everyone to read up and also ask yourself how you can get involved in your community to see these funds maximized. A real opportunity to change the course of climate resilience and housing reality in our communities. All part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration released new 'Principles for Responsible Participation in Voluntary Carbon Markets', codifying the U.S. government’s approach to advance high-integrity VCMs. The second principle advises "Credit-generating activities should avoid environmental and social harm and should, where applicable, support co-benefits and transparent and inclusive benefits-sharing." Proud to have worked with Delta Land Services, LLC and Pachama on the #AvahoulaClimateMitigationProject, a VCM project restoring 7,200 acres of marginal cropland in Louisiana to native bottomland hardwood forest, planting approximately 3.5 million native trees and reconnecting natural surface drainage. Avahoula will provide $80 million in annual co-benefits to 67,000 Louisiana residents and 46,000 visitors to nearby wildlife areas.
