📣 CALLING DRINKS BRANDS! 📣 (And all brands really, but drinks is where I'm at, so...) Literally everyone, no matter the size of a business, advertises. Maybe not through an agency, but there will be marketers in your team. And! Some of them will be queer! Also also also - however you're communicating your brand, you will be speaking to queer people. We are in your audience. Fact. So. In case you've not come across it - I'd love to introduce Outvertising! Outvertising is a brilliant organisation that works to make the UK ad and marketing industries completely inclusive for LGBTQ+ people. Outvertising Live is coming up, but the team does super cool stuff all year round, too. Check out the LinkedIn page and website. So what? I'd really recommend encouraging people in your business to come along to Outvertising Live next month. The free half-day conference is for folks in the queer community, allies, and basically anyone who wants to see a better advertising and marketing industry. Not just when it comes to representation, but also through workplace policies, and in loads of other ways as well. AND! Do consider supporting the event! Those of us who shape the messages that head out in the world have a responsibility to take this seriously and use it for good. Every June, cities around the world are awash in vibrant rainbows as the LGBTQ+ community and allies celebrate Pride Month. This celebration is often associated with coming out, a pivotal moment for many LGBTQ+ individuals. However, Pride Month is about much more than that. It is a powerful affirmation of pride in oneself, a celebration of self-acceptance, and a call to embrace our authentic identities. Coming out is undoubtedly significant; it marks a personal and often transformative journey. Yet, Pride Month extends beyond this singular act. It is about recognizing and honoring the ongoing process of self-acceptance. For many, embracing their identity is a lifelong journey that involves overcoming societal prejudices, internalized stigma, and personal struggles. Pride Month celebrates the courage it takes to live authentically every day. Moreover, Pride is about visibility and representation. It serves as a reminder that LGBTQ+ individuals exist in all walks of life and deserve to be seen, heard, and respected. This visibility is crucial in fostering a sense of belonging and community, especially for those who might feel isolated or marginalized as I did growing up and even through my young adulthood. I felt I was worth less than the folks who were “normal”. At its core, Pride is about love and self-respect. It’s a declaration that everyone deserves to love and be loved, free from fear and discrimination. It's about acknowledging the worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. In essence, Pride Month is a celebration of the entire journey of self-acceptance. It’s about coming out, yes, but it's also about what comes after—living openly, authentically, and proudly. It’s a time to embrace who we are and to support others in their journeys toward self-acceptance. Pride is not just an event; it's a powerful affirmation of identity, community, and love…FOR EVERYONE. I’m proud to be a part of an organization who celebrates this month with our community!

Looking for events that are happening in the Metro this week that you probably will want to consider as you are growing your network ? 10/18 Six years in the making but the inaugural launch of the Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce is taking place 5-6:30p at Bubba 10/19 Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa's Cookies on Tap event is at the Iowa Tap Room 4:30-7:30p. Love cookies? Like beer? Might as well combine them to support Girl Scouts! 10/19 West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce monthly Rush Hour event at Urban Cellar 4-6pm. Last year at this event I took Jason Parkin's name tag and pretended to be him which was fun, until he joined our group and I found out I can't pull off Jason very well. Anyways, always a fantastic monthly event to connect with people and gives excuses to visit other local businesses. 10/19 Technology Association of Iowa and Involta's Tech Kernels is in Liberty this month at Field Day Brewing Co. 4-7pm. If you are over in the corridor and in the technology space then you should definitely be here. Plus, this is an event that I'm planning on attending so you get to see or meet me! 10/21 Moving to a new community is often difficult. If you are new to Des Moines the Greater Des Moines Partnership has their welcome to Des Moines 10:30a-12:30p at Howells Greenhouse and Pumpkin Patch. Take the family, meet fellow new people to the area, and have a blast doing it. Registration link is in the comments. 10/22 Variety - the Children's Charity of Iowa and The Loop DSM 3rd Annual Chili Cookoff takes place 12-2p at the side room of Iowa Tap. Money goes to support the children of Iowa. I still believe that there is still openings to enter your chili to win one of the categories.
