Read NEMICS latest report: 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗚𝗕𝗧𝗜𝗤𝗔+ 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 People who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual, and other sexual and gender minorities (LGBTIQA+) may be at greater risk of developing cancer and are likely to have poorer outcomes. The Victorian Cancer Plan 2020–2024 highlights the LGBTIQA+ community as a priority population group, but there is limited understanding of the barriers and enablers to high-quality cancer care for this community. NEMICS examined: • LGBTIQA+ acknowledgment, inclusion, and targeted action in Australian cancer policy • published evidence of experience, barriers, facilitators, and recommendations on care for LGBTIQA+ people with cancer • whether sexual orientation and gender identity identifiers are present in Victorian datasets. This work has identified a range of improvement priorities including: • the need for clinical leadership and consumer advocacy • introduction of data items and improved definitions within cancer datasets; and • better monitoring of distress • improving the treatment environment NEMICS will work with our partner health services to create an improvement plan. The report showed progress against cancer is hampered by wide static cancer disparities. Compared to White people, mortality rates are two‐fold higher for prostate, stomach, and uterine corpus cancers in Black people and for liver, stomach, and kidney cancers in Native American people. This year’s report also includes a special section: Cancer in People Who Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Gender-nonconforming (LGBTQ+).

EPHMRA Webinar - 2023 Winners of the JH Award for best Conference Paper February 6 2024 - 14.00 – 14.45 UK time Speakers: Tracy Machado, Elma Research and Alberto Giovanni Leone, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano Convenor: Marcel Slavenburg, SKIM and LDC member "Gender Identity Perspective - Deep Dive into Oncology Screening" Register here - https://lnkd.in/ghpkhtuN About the Paper In this award winning paper, Tracy Machado and Alberto Leone discussed a study on the access to healthcare experienced by transgender and gender diverse people, focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic pathways in oncology as well as clinical trial inclusion. This paper highlighted that there is a real need for specialists to be more responsive and empathetic to emerging patient populations. OncoGender is a self-funded project that aims to share light on a phenomenon that is still little known and understood: transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) people’s access to clinical check-ups, screening, and treatment. A privileged look at the issue of inclusivity of healthcare via the implementation of a compelling group of Italian specialists (market researchers and oncologists) and the collaboration with AIOM (Italian Association of Medical Oncology) resulted in powerful insights.
