#linkedinsportschallenge Trying to catch up after a hectic weekend so a 2 for 1 post tonight. Day 8. How are recent trends & developments around diversity in sports ownership reshaping the landscape of sports? For this prompt, I will focus on recent developments in NASCAR. I began following the sport as a kid in 2006 and for most of the time I've followed the sport, team ownership remained relatively consistent. Often people who already had an interest in auto racing. Recently, though, with the popularity of F1 as well as auto racing growing during the pandemic saw increased interest, especially in ownership for both outside parties and among current competitors. Some examples include: -Justin Marks partnering with Pitbull to form Trackhouse Racing -Lebron James buying into the Fenway Sports Group, which partially owns RFK Racing -driver Denny Hamlin partnering with Michael Jordan to create 23XI Racing. As these opportunities to become more involved with the business to new people, new experiences and ideas are guiding the future of NASCAR and can lead to even greater advances and opportunities. #linkedinsportschallenge #linkedinsports #sportsindustry #sportsbiz #nascar #nascar75

Everyday I'm seeing industry "experts" say that we're going back to a "pre covid" market and it's a "race to the bottom." I say, well, are you going back to the way you were operating pre covid? Did you believe it would last forever and do nothing but take orders for 3 years? If so, you deserve to be obsolete. You don't train your sales people. You don't brand your dealership as a unique place to buy. You think the OEMs are covering all your advertising bases. You fear change, your competition, and refuse to come together with other operators in order to benefit the industry. So, industry experts, for most dealers you may be correct. But I can tell you firsthand that it is not the case for those who are fluid, take risks, and are selling on more than price. I work with dealers on a daily basis who are pushing the envelop and reaping the benefits PURELY because no one else is. Stop promoting fear, ice age strategies, and industry experts who say the world is ending. In every market, there is a way to win. Find it and focus on it.

By Jerry Jordan, Editor DARLINGTON, S.C. – Gambling used to be taboo in auto racing but with NASCAR now having sponsorship arrangements with multiple big-name sportsbooks and even though it’s something added to the fan experience many drivers don’t care what the oddsmakers think about their chances. “Who makes the odds,” asked Chris Buescher, the three-time winner was told he is 16-to-1. “Experts in Vegas? That sentence doesn’t even make sense to me. So, expert gamblers? Who are these experts? No, no, it doesn’t matter. The gambling side of our sport has been a lot of fun for a lot of people. “I can’t tell you how many people will come up to me at the racetrack and probably this week, too, and say, ‘Yeah, you made me fifty bucks’ or ‘thank you, you made me three grand here.’ That’s awesome. I am happy for you but I have no clue how that happened. Good for you. Proud to do it but it doesn’t matter. We measure internally what we are doing, what we car capable of, what we need to improve on. We know all these things and no expert oddsmaker living in Las Vegas is going to change how we approach our races.” Since NASCAR drivers are forbidden from betting on themselves, or anything involved in motorsports, that may play into their answers about what the oddsmakers think of winning the Cup Series championship. At first, Joey Logano acted like he was interested, asking “where am I at” but then quickly corrected himself saying, “I don’t care.” #BetMGM #Championship #Gambling #NASCAR

Any racing and pickleball fans here? ️ Both sports have recently faced interesting league shakeups! In IndyCar, the 1996 "Split" between CART and the IRL was brutal. Fans were divided, sponsorships scattered, and the talent pool thinned. It took years to rebuild after they finally reunified in 2008. A cautionary tale for competition within a sport! Now, pickleball is experiencing its own split with a clear line in the sand between USAP/APP Tour and the newly formed UPA & UPA-A. Players face tough choices, and the long-term impact is unclear. Will it be another IndyCar situation, or can they find a way to coexist? Curious about your thoughts and what you think the long-term ramifications/benefits are. #pickleball #indycar #sportsindustry
