Don’t Let Your Kids Grow Up to Be Executive Recruiters! – This is a tough job. As a small business owner, I don’t get a salary, bonus, stock options, vacations, sick days or paid health insurance. If I don’t get executives placed, I don’t eat. Have to compete with Executive Recruiters that take clients on Caribbean cruises, golf tours, $1,000 dinners, nightclubs and strip clubs. And I can deal with all that because this business funds a dozen charities. Here are two things I can’t deal with. First, candidates that change the goal line when it’s first and goal from the five. Had a guy at $150,00. After two months of interviews, when it was time for the job offer, he changed the number to $200,000. Second, hiring companies that take two or three months to interview and hire a candidate.  Good candidates have no shelf life! Many of you are thinking, “The Godfather is mad because he is not getting paid.” No, I’m frustrated because I can get more of everything…except time. I could have been helping other candidates and clients. I could have been spending time with family and friends. Always remember this: The Executive Recruiter does not get paid unless they get you the job.

A returning client asked me an interesting question last week.   ‘I know we have worked together before, but I'm hoping you recruit for finance roles too?’   I had the privilege of working with this client previously on a director level role but in a different discipline. As they said, there are several recruitment consultancies and agencies that work exclusively in the finance recruitment space, but they wanted to come to us first because we knew them, we “got them”. We knew how the charity functioned, how the team worked together, the values of the organisation and what it would take to thrive with them. But do we work in the finance space? The simple answer was yes! And I had multiple tangible examples of director level, Head of and a Manager role in the last 6 months to give as examples. Over 80% of our business is repeat/based on recommendations, and giving our clients an experience they want to return for, and a successful partnership and outcome to repeat, is something we pride ourselves on. But there always has to be a first time working together and engaging new clients and working together to form a partnership is just the start.   What is important to you in a new or existing partnership?   #charityrecruitment #partnerships

A very funny😁 mistake. Few weeks back, I wanted to share a post with my sister here on LinkedIn. I clicked on share and I was busy typing "Lil Sis" it did not suggest anything, by the third time I smiled I had just realised my mistake. The relationship I have with my sister has not changed because we are on LinkedIn, but her name here is not "Lil Sis" 😁. 📍Lesson ✅️Always remember where you are at. The people there may be familiar to you, but they may have a different name or title eg MD, CFO etc with which they are to be addressed at a particular time and/or place. ��️Don't just say Ada even if that person was your Junior in secondary school. ✔️You may ask of Ada in a company where Ada is the CFO and be told she doesn't work there, even though she earlier gave you a special appointment. ✔️When you realise your mistake don't be too hard on yourself, if it involves other people apologise to them and please move on. 🤔Do you draw lessons from simple things?
