It’s so motivating to work with a leader that encourages thinking big. Thanks Doug Herrington — I’m excited to see where the PM Lab goes! And thanks to Jay Zimmerman and Michelle Na for helping us get it off the ground.

“Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper.”    I just finished a delightful little book by the filmmaker David Lynch, “Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity”. In it, Lynch says that ideas are like fish, and that his interest is in catching the big fish. Although the book is mostly about filmmaking, he makes that point early on that big ideas are everywhere – in cinema, in sports, and in business. His metaphor reminded me a lot of one our Leadership Principles at Amazon: Think Big. Leaders at Amazon boldly think differently to inspire change and deliver big results for our customers. Throughout Amazon’s history, we’ve seen great success from leaders who, through thinking big, have created fantastic new experiences for our customers. Leaders who Think Big are out to catch the big fish.   Last week I had a chance to share some of my Amazon experiences with students in the PM Lab, our new training on product management. I used the big fish metaphor quite a bit in that discussion. It’s so important that we’re prioritizing teaching product managers the skills and principles that will help them invent on behalf of our customers, especially the skills to find and catch the big fish. Thanks Peter Larsen for developing this program, and inviting me to class. I enjoyed the Audible version, which David Lynch narrates himself. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gvu22cE6

Thanks to you for having Michelle and me on the project! It's been a blast helping you take this from an idea to a rich experience for some of Amazon's rising stars. Eager to see what the rest of the instructors have in store!
