Great PMs encourage everyone on the team to discuss and debate the product direction. Bad PMs let everyone outsource their product thinking to one person's point of view.
Bad PMs see input from other functions as a threat to “their product”. I am sure you have heard of the adage “PM is the CEO of the Product”. I like that it emphasizes the responsibility and ownership of the product on product managers. However, it’s crucial for PMs to balance this authority with collaboration and openness to input from other functions. A PM who views input from others as a threat may hinder the overall success of the product and the team. Collaboration and open communication are key for effective product management.
It's okay. Since managers play the role of technical lead, resource manager, director, product owner, solutions owner, and project manager their voice just counts as 10 voices on the team. So many places fail to have positive growth for the reason you're describing, and less often software engineering work isn't backed by meaning research and data driven features.
Or bad PM leaders just set the direction without anyone's input.
How do you navigate this when the culture is being enforced by your PM executive? Let’s play extreme and say the executive is toxic and anything that is questioned is considered insubordination.
Also great companies encourage their PMs to empower the rest of the team, and bad companies see it as a sign of poor leadership.
Peter Yang I'm attempting to make an epic career pivot to Product Management. My background includes, Sales & Marketing, Software Development, and MBA. Who would you recommend following (aside from yourself) to stay abreast of uncommon opportunities?? Any thoughts are much appreciated!

True that, Peter! Teams will eventually become more aligned if their opinion has been taken into account. The "Why" becomes stronger. And there is nothing more powerful than a team that rows in the same direction with purpose.
