Modifier 27 is not typically used in the same context as Modifier 26. Instead, Modifier 27 is used to indicate multiple outpatient hospital evaluation and management services provided on the same day. It helps ensure appropriate reimbursement for distinct E/M services provided during the same encounter. In summary, Modifier 26 is for the professional component, while Modifier 27 is for multiple outpatient hospital E/M services on the same day.
