So many different ways to look at partnering, but when viewed through the ECOSYSTEM LENS it can help you focus on a different set of goals and courses of action.   Why?  Because so few buying decisions are made in a vacuum of single providers anymore... most are made with your ecosystem (including your company's products/services) competing against other ecosystems and their offerings.  A weak link might sabotage your best efforts to win.  Whether you're buying a complex analytical capability, a domain or function-specific solution, a cell phone or a car, the decision is likely based on one sum of parts versus another... the underlying ecosystem!  How you organize, participate in, contribute to and manage an ecosystem might be just as important as the efforts and investments you put into the products/services you're developing and delivering.   Whether you live in the partnering world everyday or just view it as an activity your organization needs, Benjamin Gomes-Casseres' course “Strategic Partnerships: Ecosystems and Platforms” offers some great insights in an easy to digest presentation.
